In this article, the authors present a collection of Ludwig von Bertalanffy's writings on general system theory, selected and edited to show the evolution of systems theory and to present its applications to problem-solving.
Abstract
Ludwig von Bertalanffy's theory of laws is applicable to virtually every scientific field. This conceptual approach has had a profound impact on biology, economics, psychology, and demography, with new relevancies today. Gathered here are Ludwig von Bertalanffy's writings on general system theory, selected and edited to show the evolution of systems theory and to present its applications to problem-solving. The new foreword by University of Vienna system theory professor, Wolfgang Hofkirchner, and Centre for Systems Philosophy director, David Rousseau, discusses the theory s contemporary applications.

Stakeholder participation for environmental management: A literature review

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a review of the development of participatory approaches in different disciplinary and geographical contexts, and reviews typologies that can be used to categorise and select participatory methods.

Biological sensitivity to context: I. An evolutionary–developmental theory of the origins and functions of stress reactivity

TL;DR: Theoretical perspectives generate a novel hypothesis: that there is a curvilinear, U-shaped relation between early exposures to adversity and the development of stress-reactive profiles, with high reactivity phenotypes disproportionately emerging within both highly stressful and highly protected early social environments.

Information systems innovation for environmental sustainability

TL;DR: A research agenda on information systems innovation for environmental sustainability demonstrates the critical role that IS can play in shaping beliefs about the environment, in enabling and transforming sustainable processes and practices in organizations, and in improving environmental and economic performance.

Modelling Forest Growth and Yield: Applications to Mixed Tropical Forests

TL;DR: There is a large body of work on the use of mixed plantations and natural forests in forest management as mentioned in this paper, and many approaches have been proposed to build a model for mixed forests.
