TL;DR: In this paper, a computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen, applying one or several heuristics to the finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one- dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-linear navigation in a discussion forum is described, which facilitates a user to move to points not traditionally reachable in a single vertical navigation step in a forum interface.
Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with providing non-linear navigation in a discussion forum are described. One method embodiment includes maintaining a location data that identifies a thread or message to which a user has navigated. The method also includes manipulating a navigation control in a graphical user interface based on actions taken by the user and/or other users of the system. The navigation control facilitates a user moving to points not traditionally reachable in a single vertical navigation step in a discussion forum interface.

TL;DR: In this article, personal health-related information about the user is obtained from the user operating a client computer, which includes one or more health related terms that each corresponds to a health related concept.
Abstract: Personalization of access to health-related information on a computer network is provided based upon a health history of a user. In one implementation, personal health-related information about the user is obtaining from the user operating a client computer. The health-related information includes one or more health-related terms that each corresponds to a health-related concept. The health related terms provided by the user are correlated with a health terminology thesaurus that is stored on a computer-readable medium, such as at a server remote from-the user client. Each of the health-related terms is associated with a single concept unique identifier that uniquely identifies a corresponding health-related concept. Health-related works or content is made accessible over the computer network by correlating the concept unique identifiers for the user's health information with corresponding concept unique identifiers that are associated with the health-related content.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a content reproducing device capable of reproducing a newly received content while maintaining continuity by associating the content with a state at the time of halt in the case of restarting reproduction of the content whose reproduction is halted when the content is reproduced in a FIFO form.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a content reproducing device capable of reproducing a newly received content while maintaining continuity by associating the content with a state at the time of halt in the case of restarting reproduction of the content whose reproduction is halted when the content is reproduced in a FIFO form while overwriting the newly received content on the oldest content. SOLUTION: When data output from a ring buffer memory 2A to a decoder 5 is halted, music information including data outputted from the ring buffer memory 2A is stored in timing when a reproduction halt key is operated and when output of the halted data to the decoder 5 is restarted, the output is restarted from the stored data. In addition, only a piece of music information including the data output from the ring buffer memory 2A in timing when the halt of reproduction is instructed is stored. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
