TL;DR: In this paper, a computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen, applying one or several heuristics to the finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one- dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.

TL;DR: In this article, an infrared LED panel for always applying infrared light to the back surface of a semi-transparent screen, a CCD camera for capturing only infrared light coming from the infrared light, and a projector for projecting an image onto the semi transmissive screen (with light not including infrared light).
Abstract: There are provided an infrared LED panel for always applying infrared light to the back surface of a semi-transparent screen, a CCD camera for capturing only infrared light coming from the semi-transparent screen, and a projector for projecting an image onto the semi-transparent screen (with light not including infrared light). When a user performs a manipulation on the front side of the semi-transparent screen, the quantity of reflected infrared light varies. A control device picks up a variation in reflection light quantity as detection image information based on an imaging signal of the CCD camera. Further, in accordance with manipulation information that is obtained based on the detection image information, the control device executes controls necessary for, for instance, switching of an interface image to be displayed on the semi-transparent screen. A manipulation method may be in such a form as to cause a variation in detection image information through reflection of infrared light. Interactive input/output with various manipulation methods is thus enabled.

TL;DR: In this article, a data processing system consisting of a display screen (102), a graphical user interface for displaying objects on the display screen, and detection means (102) for detecting a touch position of a pointing object (103) on display screen is described.
Abstract: The invention relates to a data processing system comprising a display screen (102), a graphical user interface for displaying objects on the display screen, and detection means (102) for detecting a touch position of a pointing object (103) on the display screen. The detection means (102) is capable of measuring a distance between the pointing object and the display screen. A property of the displayed objects is dependent on the measured distance between the pointing object and the display screen.

TL;DR: In this paper, a feedback mechanism usable with graphical user interface systems that do not have a cursor improves the usefulness of such graphical user interfaces by providing distinctions to the hyperlink targets or active areas.
Abstract: A feedback mechanism usable with graphical user interface systems that do not have a cursor improves the usefulness of such graphical user interfaces. Locating, identifying and/or selecting hyperlink targets or active areas within a displayed image map or within a Web page is facilitated by providing distinctions to the hyperlink targets or active areas or by providing other locational indicators for a designated time period in response to a single user gesture. The distinctions or locational indicators may be provided in combination with other distinctions or locational indicators to further aid the hyperlink target or active area location, identification and/or selection process. After a designated time period expires, the distinctions, locational indicators, or their combination, are removed from the display without any additional user gesture. This increases the efficiency and convenience of locating, identifying and/or selecting hyperlink targets or active areas in a graphical user interface system.
