TL;DR: In this paper, a computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen, applying one or several heuristics to the finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one- dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.

TL;DR: In this article, a graphic underlay for a capacitive touch screen system is positioned between the display and the touch screen to protect the graphic underlayer from wear and prevent the underlay from interfering with the touch sensing operation.
Abstract: A graphic underlay for a capacitive touch screen system is positioned between the display and the touch screen. The positioning of the graphic underlay protects the graphic underlay from wear and prevents the graphic underlay from interfering with the touch sensing operation. The graphic underlay is held between a plastic retainer attached to a front bezel and the touch screen. The graphic underlay includes tabs for easing the placement and removal of the graphic underlay. The graphic underlay or graphic sheet includes visual indicia related to menus, controls, background, or other symbols for use in a touch screen system. The graphic underlay may be accessed by pivotally opening a front enclosure from a rear enclosure and pivotally opening a pan from the front enclosure.

TL;DR: In this article, a durable unitary lens filter is provided for use with a touch sensitive display device for associated control process equipment, which includes a mounting bezel that supports an intermediate lens securing an integral rear lens filter.
Abstract: A durable unitary lens filter is provided for use with a touch sensitive display device for associated control process equipment. A front cover secures the unitary lens filter to the machine. The lens assembly includes a mounting bezel that supports an intermediate lens securing an integral rear lens filter through which a responsive display shows process information to an operator. The front cover captivates the integral bezel to secure the lens to the associated process device. The lens is molded from a semi-rigid material composition including glass fibers. An internal retainer compressibly captivates the bezel against the front cover. The bezel periphery extends substantially beyond the outermost peripheral edge of the rear lens so that forces thereto are transferred and dissipated to the machine housing.

TL;DR: In this paper, a computer-implemented system and method for processing one or more alternate symbols associated or linked to a base symbol is described, which is a symbol to which at least one alternate symbol is linked.
Abstract: Described herein is a computer-implemented system and method for processing one or more alternate symbols associated or linked to a base symbol. A base symbol is a symbol to which at least one alternate symbol is linked. A base symbol commonly appears on a key of a keyboard or a display of a keyboard, or is a handwritten symbol recognized by handwriting entry software. Examples of alternate symbols are accented characters and punctuation marks that do not appear on a keyboard or are not commonly recognized by a handwriting entry program, and short symbol sequences. An example of a common short symbol sequence is an emoticon used in e-mail messages to convey tone or feelings. An example of a computer device that may embody the system or method is a hand-held computing device.

TL;DR: In this article, an electronic device including a switch member which has a multiplicity of switch contacts provided thereon, a film liquid crystal display unit disposed above the switch member and having openings provided at positions opposite to the respective switch contacts, and operation members disposed in the corresponding openings so as to depress the operation members from above the liquid-crystal display.
Abstract: An electronic device including a switch member which has a multiplicity of switch contacts provided thereon, a film liquid crystal display unit disposed above the switch member and having openings provided at positions opposite to the respective switch contacts, and operation members disposed in the corresponding openings so as to depress the operation members from above the film liquid crystal display. By the depression of the respective operation members, the corresponding switch contacts are switched. According to this structure, the switching operations are performed on the film liquid crystal display unit, so that the operability of the switches is improved and the device itself is miniaturized.
