TL;DR: In this paper, a computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen, applying one or several heuristics to the finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one- dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.

TL;DR: In this article, a flat panel display (100) for aircraft cockpits is presented, which uses a dual CPU/graphics generator system (70 and 80) to produce simulated aircraft instrument display which is color coded to indicate when one of the graphic generators has not correctly received data from the aircraft bus (20).
Abstract: A thin flat panel display (100) for aircraft cockpits. This display uses a dual CPU/graphics generator systems (70 and 80) to produce simulated aircraft instrument display which is color coded to indicate when one of the graphic generators has not correctly received data from the aircraft bus (20). The display uses standard graphic generators (70 and 80) and CPUs (50 and 60), and does not require additional software. The display (100) also allows the aircraft systems to be continuously tested while the aircraft is on the ground. Morever, the inventive systems includes input touch devices which access external memories to display necessary flight and a landing information which allow the cockpit crew to expand in detail the external information for display on the flat panel.

TL;DR: In this article, a keypad structure is positioned at the middle gripping section on a front surface of the housing, and the back surface has a depression positioned generally at the midline of a housing, engaging fingertips, the palm, or other portions of the hand when the user holds the electronics device.
Abstract: Electronics devices having a housing with ergonomic features that enhance the ability of a user to hold the electronics devices for extended periods of time using different grips. The housing has a middle gripping region that is narrower than a top section and a bottom section positioned to either side of the gripping region. A keypad structure is positioned at the middle gripping section on a front surface of the housing. The back surface of the housing has a depression positioned generally at the midline of the housing. The depression engages the fingertips, the palm, or other portions of the hand when the user holds the electronics device. Rounded corners where the lateral surface of the housing meet the front surface and the back surface contribute to the user's comfort when holding the electronics device. The ergonomic features of the housing enable the user to conveniently hold the electronics device in any of a variety of grips, using one or two hands, and in which the fingers or palm of the hand or hands engage the depression.

TL;DR: Three dual-stream input methods were studied, with one stream for pointing and one for scrolling, showing that a mouse augmented with a tracking wheel did not outperform the conventional single stream mouse.
Abstract: To find ways to improve users' performance of tasks that involve both scrolling and pointing, we studied three dual-stream input methods, with one stream for pointing and one for scrolling. The results showed that a mouse augmented with a tracking wheel did not outperform the conventional single stream mouse. Two other methods, a mouse with an isometric rate-control joystick and a two handed system significantly improved users' performance.

TL;DR: In this paper, a first visual cue is assigned to the data item based on the importance of the data items, and a second visual cue based on an urgency of data items.
Abstract: Data items contained in personal information are displayed in manner that is indicative of both the importance and the urgency of the data items. A first visual cue is assigned to the data item based on an importance of the data item. The first visual cue may cause more important items to be displayed with increased size and less important items to be displayed with decreased size. A second visual cue is assigned to the data item based on an urgency of the data item. The second visual cue may cause more urgent items to be displayed in a first color and less important items to be displayed in a second color. The data item is displayed using the first and second visual cue as to provide a visual indication as to both the importance and urgency of the data item.
