New genetic signals for lung function highlight pathways and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease associations across multiple ancestries

Nick Shrine, +115 more
- 25 Feb 2019 -
TL;DR: In this paper, a genome-wide association study in 400,102 individuals of European ancestry was conducted to define 279 lung function signals, 139 of which are new and the combined effect of these variants showed generalizability across smokers and never smokers, and across ancestral groups.

Cancer Statistics in Korea: Incidence, Mortality, Survival, and Prevalence in 2017.

TL;DR: The burden of cancer measured by incidence and mortality rates have improved in Korea, with the exception of a few particular cancers that are associated with increasing incidence or mortality rates.

Qualitative sex differences in pain processing: emerging evidence of a biased literature

TL;DR: This Review describes how the recent adoption by a number of funding agencies of policies mandating the incorporation of sex as a biological variable into preclinical research has correlated with an increase in the number of studies investigating sex differences in pain and analgesia.

Iron metabolism and iron disorders revisited in the hepcidin era

TL;DR: Improved understanding of iron homeostasis and its regulation is leading to the development of targeted therapies for iron overload and inflammation, mainly centered on the manipulation of the hepcidin-ferroportin axis.
