TL;DR: It is indicated that siblings of children with ASD are at increased risk of developing internalising behaviour problems and it is important to focus on dynamic variables in the search for these contributors, as they are open to change.
Abstract: Background Siblings of children with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) express more problem behaviours and experience more difficulties in their relationships than do children in families where all ...

TL;DR: Regression analysis showed that the behavior problems of the child with developmental disability at Time 1, but not the change in their behavior over time, predicted sibling adjustment over 2 years, but there was no evidence that this putative temporal relationship operated bidirectionally.
Abstract: Siblings of children with developmental disabilities were assessed twice, 2 years apart (N = 75 at Time 1, N = 56 at Time 2). Behavioral adjustment of the siblings and their brother or sister with developmental disability was assessed. Comparisons of adjustment for siblings of children with autism, Down syndrome, and mixed etiology mental retardation failed to identify group differences. Regression analysis showed that the behavior problems of the child with developmental disability at Time 1, but not the change in their behavior over time, predicted sibling adjustment over 2 years. There was no evidence that this putative temporal relationship operated bidirectionally: sibling adjustment did not appear to be related to the behavior problems of the children with developmental disabilities over time.

TL;DR: A systematic review synthesised evidence from studies evaluating sibling‐oriented care aimed at improving behavioural and emotional outcomes in well siblings of children with chronic illness or disability.
Abstract: Aim: Chronic illness or disability in children can have a deleterious effect on the psychosocial health of well siblings. This systematic review synthesised evidence from studies evaluating sibling-oriented care aimed at improving behavioural and emotional outcomes in well siblings of children with chronic illness or disability. Methods: Twenty electronic databases were searched. Study selection, data extraction and assessment of methodological quality were performed by two independent reviewers. Results: Five controlled and nine uncontrolled studies were included. In higher-quality controlled trials, benefits of sibling-oriented care included reduced anxiety, improved mood and behavioural adjustment; however, these findings were not consistently demonstrated across studies. Study differences made it difficult to determine which sibling care features were most salient. Conclusions: Study findings highlight the potential for enhancing emotional and behavioural outcomes in well siblings. Future evaluations need to clearly identify the intended purpose of the care (what improvements are intended) and which types of siblings are most likely to benefit. This approach may yield more consistent and clinically important results.

TL;DR: Results indicate substantial variability in both methodology and outcomes across sibling-focused intervention and support group studies, which put the overall effects and utility of these services into question.
Abstract: Both the population of siblings of youth with developmental disabilities (DDs) and the popularity of clinical services designed for these youth are on the rise. However, the research base for such services has yet to be evaluated. A systematic review of studies on intervention and support for siblings of youth with DDs was conducted in order to evaluate the current state of the literature and provide recommendations for research and practice. Sixteen articles were selected and reviewed in terms of their experimental design, participant characteristics, measurement, intervention or support group protocol, outcomes, and dissemination of findings. Results indicate substantial variability in both methodology and outcomes across sibling-focused intervention and support group studies, which put the overall effects and utility of these services into question. Recommendations for future research are outlined, with a focus on advancing a more systematic and careful approach to asking and effectively answering questions about siblings, their families, and meaningful services for both.

TL;DR: What sibling relationships look like for a typically developing sibling of a child with an ASD and what resources are available for parents and specialists to support siblings of children with ASDs are reviewed.
Abstract: Research studies have shown the importance of early intervention services for young children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their families. However, most attention has been given to the effectiveness of treatments solely for children with ASDs. Because the family centered practice has been emphasized and supported by many researchers and legislation, involving family members other than children with ASDs and their parents in the assessing, planning, and implementing interventions is seen as crucial. The purpose of this article is to review what sibling relationships look like for a typically developing sibling of a child with an ASD and what resources are available for parents and specialists to support siblings of children with ASDs.

Q1. What have the authors contributed in "Groupes fratries comme dispositifs d’accompagnement des frères et sœurs d’enfants porteurs de handicap et/ou maladie : une revue de la littérature support groups for siblings of children with disabilities and/or illnesses: a review of the literature" ?

This paper is aiming to a literature review on support groups for siblings of children with disability or illness. After describing the diversity of the sibling groups ' methodological/theoretical frameworks and approaches, their functioning and objectives, a comparative analysis of the benefits they provide is carried out according to whether they concern any type of disability/disease or focus on ASDs.
