TLDR
The reaction of 2,2-dichlorodimedone with bases gives complex mixtures, but with silver oxide a straightforward reaction leads with high yield to 6,6-dimichloro-4,4-dimethyl-5-oxohexanoic acid and/or to 4,4dimethyl -5-chloroacetyl-2-tetrahydrofuranone.
Abstract
The reaction of 2,2-dichlorodimedone with bases gives complex mixtures, but with silver oxide a straightforward reaction leads with high yield to 6,6-dichloro-4,4-dimethyl-5-oxohexanoic acid and/or to 4,4-dimethyl-5-chloroacetyl-2-tetrahydrofuranone. Identical reactions occur with 2,2-dichloro-1,3-cyclohexanedione.

Halogen Substituted 1,3-Cyclohexanediones II. New Chlorinated Cycloalkanones from 2, 2-Dichlorodimedone

TL;DR: In this article, a number of new substances obtained from 2,2-dichlorodimedone are described, including ring contraction to a 2-cyclopentenone derivative with simultaneous carbon monoxide elimination, isomerization procedure of halogenated ketones in dimethylformamide and hydrogen chloride, and aromatization to some new resorcinol derivatives.

Reactivity of N‐2‐(1,1‐Dichloroalkylidene) Cyclohexylamines. II

TL;DR: In this article, N-2-(1,1-dichloroalkylidene) cyclohexylamines with excess sodium methylate in methanol under reflux were hydrolysed to corresponding 1, 1-dimethoxy-2-alkanones.

Halogen Substituted 1, 3‐Cyclohexanediones IV. Reaction OF 2, 2‐Dichloro‐1, 3‐Cyclohexanediones With Sodium Methylate

TL;DR: In this article, a Favorskii rearrangement was performed on 2-dichlorodimedone to give a mixture of 3-dimethyl-α-hydromuconate, 4-dimethylamine and 3-cyclohexanediones.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Multiple Reactions in the Monochlorodimedone Assay: Discovery of Unique Dehalolactonizations under Mild Conditions

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the monochlorodimedone assay as an assay of the brominating activity of halogenating enzymes; however, the assumed product was found to spontaneously decompose during the measurement.
