Resource saving by optimization and machining environments for sustainable manufacturing: A review and future prospects

TL;DR: The most important aspect of sustainability in manufacturing is the preservation of energy and natural resources as discussed by the authors , which can be achieved by increasing energy efficiency through low, clean, and renewable energy consumption.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dry Machining Performance of AA7075-T6 Alloy Using Uncoated Carbide and MT-CVD TiCN-Al2O3-Coated Carbide Inserts

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of AA7075 T6 alloy with uncoated and MT-CVD TiCN-Al2O3-coated carbide inserts is evaluated with regard to tangential cutting force, tool tip temperature and depth of flank wear.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anti-frictional role of diamond and graphite suspended bio-oil based nano-aerosols at sliding interface of Al-SiCp and WC-6Co

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated tribo-phenomena at sliding interface of Al2124-17SiCp disc and WC-6Co pin and explored suitability of nano-oil aerosols as lubricants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental research on machinability characteristics of Al-9Si alloy: Effect of Sr and Mg additives

TL;DR: In this article , the effects of strontium (Sr) and magnesium (Mg) elements in certain rates added to Al-9Si alloy manufactured using permanent mold casting technique on the structural, mechanical, and machinability properties of these alloys were investigated.

Machinability study of pure aluminium and Al–12% Si alloys against uncoated and coated carbide inserts

TL;DR: In this article, an investigation has been undertaken to study the compatibility of cutting materials in dry machining of aluminium and Al-Si alloys, and the results of turning test, SEM pictures and chip morphology investigation of the cutting tool after machining clearly reveal the inefficiency of TiC, TiN, TiB2, Al2O3, and AlON.

Microscopic observations of adiabatic shear bands in three different steels

TL;DR: In this article, microscopic observations were made of the shear band material in three different steels: (1) an AISI 1018 cold-rolled steel (CRS), (2) a structural steel (HY-100), and (3) a vacuum arc remelted (VAR) steel tempered to either of two hardnesses, RHC 44 or 55.

Analyzing the performance of diamond-coated micro end mills.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method was presented to improve the tool life and cutting performance of 300mm diameter tungsten carbide (WC) micro end mills by applying thin (50%). Reduction of the cutting forces is attributed to the low friction and adhesion of the diamond coating.

A study of plastic strain and plastic strain rate in machining of steel AISI 1045 using FEM analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of high speed machining (HSM) in the plastic strain and plastic strain rate when cutting steel AISI 1045 was observed, and it can be concluded that both the PL strain and PL strain rate can be predicted with good precision when machining with the FEM model.
