TLDR
In this paper, the subjective rating of vibration is reviewed and the authors conclude that there is a need for more basic research into the factors determining human reaction to vibration of relatively low intensity of the kind induced in buildings and other structures excited by traffic or industrial operations outside.

Vibration serviceability of long-span concrete building floors. Part 1: Review of background information

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of the literature pertinent to the vibration serviceability of long-span building floors made of concrete and propose ways for its mathematical modelling, based on 132 references pertinent to these three key aspects of the problem.
Journal ArticleDOI

Embodied medicine: Mens sana in corpore virtuale sano

TL;DR: It is believed that existing bodily illusions still need to be improved to enhance their capability to effectively correct pathological dysfunctions and the concept of “Sonoception” is proposed, to exploit recent technological advances in the acoustic field to use sound and vibrations to modify the internal/inner body experience.
Journal ArticleDOI

Unusual animal behavior before earthquakes: A review of possible sensory mechanisms

TL;DR: This paper found no evidence that magnetic field precursors or precursory high-frequency (above 10 kHz) sounds are the cause of unusual animal behavior before earthquakes, and they recommended further geophysical research in seismic areas to measure (1) seismic waves in the frequency range 10-50 Hz, (2) earthquake-related electric field changes and air ionization, and (3) coseismic or preseismic release of trapped gases other than radon.

Highway Bridge Vibration Studies

TL;DR: The results of acceleration studies of highway girder bridges are presented in this paper, where the authors investigated the effect of different bridge-vehicle parameters, including the properties of the bridge and the vehicle, as well as the initial conditions of the roadway, on the psychological effects of pedestrians and occupants of stopped vehicles.

Evaluation methods for vibration effect

Toshisuke Miwa
- 01 Jan 1968 -
TL;DR: The vibration greatness of three kinds of pulses such as pulsed sinusoidal, damped and built-up vibrations is obtained in comparison with a continuous sinusoid vibration.

Neuronal Coding by Cortical Cells of the Frequency of Oscillating Peripheral Stimuli

TL;DR: One class of neurons in the somatic sensory cortex of unanesthetized monkeys is rhythmically entrained by sinusoidal mechanical stimulation of the skin of the hand at low frequencies; a second class, linked to Pacinian afferents, increases its rate of discharge in response to high-frequency peripheral stimuli but is not entrained.
