Impedance, attenuation and power-handling characteristics of double L-septa waveguides

01 May 1993-IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques (IEEE)-Vol. 41, Iss: 5, pp 881-884
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed an improved version of the double T-septa guide having larger cut-off wavelength and broader bandwidth of the dominant TE mode, which is shown theoretically by the authors to be an improved variant of the Double T-Septa guide with two L-shaped septa attached to the broad walls.
Abstract: Rectangular waveguides with two L-shaped septa attached to the broad walls in antipodal configuration have been shown theoretically by the authors (see ibid. vol.40, no.4, p.777-781, 1992) to be an improved variant of the double T-septa guide having larger cut-off wavelength and broader bandwidth of the dominant TE mode. Numerical data on the attenuation, impedance, and power handling capability of this new type of broadband guide are presented as additional design information. >

TL;DR: In this article, a technique of electrodynamic calculation and computer-aided simulation of the structure of the electromagnetic fields of TE and TM waves in a rectangular waveguide with two L-shaped ridges and a lossless air filling is presented.
Abstract: A technique of electrodynamic calculation and computer-aided simulation of the structure of the electromagnetic fields of TE and TM waves in a rectangular waveguide with two L-shaped ridges and a lossless air filling is presented. The problem is solved by means of the partial domain method with allowance for the edge singularity of the electromagnetic field. Cutoff wave numbers, the structure of the electromagnetic fields of various TE — and TM-wave modes in the cutoff regime, the characteristic impedance, and the breakdown power for the fundamental waveguide mode are calculated.

TL;DR: The only published design information on ridged guide transmission lines is found in a paper by S. B. Cohn and to some extent in the Waveguide Handbook as mentioned in this paper, which is largely written with this in mind.
Abstract: As far as we are aware, the only published design information on ridged guide transmission lines is found in a paper by S. B. Cohn and to some extent in the Waveguide Handbook. Recent applications, however, have indicated a need for additional and, in some cases, more accurate design information. The present paper is largely written with this in mind.

TL;DR: In this article, numerical data on the cutoff and bandwidth characteristics of the dominant TE/sub 10/ mode of rectangular waveguide with a single T-septum are presented and compared with those of single-ridged guides.
Abstract: Recently, a new rectangular waveguide with two T-shaped septa has heen proposed by the authors as a superior alternative to conventional ridged guide. Here, numerical data on the cutoff and band-width characteristics of the dominant TE/sub 10/ mode of rectangular waveguide with a single T-septum are presented and compared with those of single-ridged guides. The gap impedances of both the double and single T-septum guides are also determined as functions of gap parameters.

TL;DR: In this article, a new rectangular waveguide with two T-shaped septums in place of solid rectangular ridges has been analyzed theoretically by the Ritz-Galerkin technique and is found to have superior cutoff and bandwidth characteristics of the dominant TE/sub10/ mode compared to the conventional ridged guides.
Abstract: A new rectangular waveguide with two T-shaped septums in place of solid rectangular ridges has been analyzed theoretically by the Ritz-Galerkin technique and is found to have superior cutoff and bandwidth characteristics of the dominant TE/sub10/ mode compared to the conventional ridged guides. Numerical data are presented and compared with those of symmetric double-ridged guides with identical gap parameters.

TL;DR: In this article, the cutoff frequency and impedance of T-septum waveguides have been investigated and the theoretical results are obtained by the formulation of an integral eigenvalue equation which is subsequently solved numerically by application of the Ritz-Galerkin method.
Abstract: Equations and curves giving cutoff frequency and impedance are presented for rectangular waveguide having a T-septum on one or both sides. It is shown that the T-septum waveguide has a lower cutoff frequency and wider bandwidth than a ridged waveguide of the same gap parameters. The impedance characteristic is shown to be almost the same as that of the ridged guide. Equations and charts are presented to facilitate the design of T-septum waveguides. Experimental measurements show a good agreement with the theoretical predictions. The theoretical results are obtained by the formulation of an integral eigenvalue equation which is subsequently solved numerically by application of the Ritz-Galerkin method. The eigenvalue spectrum is also discussed.
