TLDR
Recent studies involving Y-chromosomal haplotyping and surname analysis are promising and indicate that genealogists of the future could be turning to records written in DNA, as well as in paper archives, to solve their problems.

Namesakes or relatives? Approaches to investigating the relationship between Y chromosome haplogroups and surnames

TL;DR: The proposed index of accumulated haplogroups frequency eliminates the artifactual effect of a randomly increased haplogroup frequency in namesakes by subtracting its population (expected) frequency from the observed value, while the expected frequency is calculated as the weighted average of the frequencies of this haploggroup in the populations where the surname carriers come from.

Dinámica antroponímica y estructura demogenética en Casabindo: siglos XVI al XXI

Alfaro Gómez, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a trabajo seguimiento de los casabindos and sus descendientes a lo largo de un periodo de mas de 400 anos, a partir de la información consignada en una serie secuencial de registros de poblacion, to analizar las caracteristicas del sistema nominativo and the estructura poblacional.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic polymorphisms of Y-chromosome short tandem repeats (Y-STRs) in a male population from Golestan province, Iran.

TL;DR: The results indicated the efficiency of Y-STRs to be used as genetic markers for forensic medicine, and also the evolutionary comparison of different ethnic groups of Golestan, Iran.

The Y-Chromosome in Forensic and Public Health Genetics

TL;DR: The Y-Chromosome in Forensic and Public Health Genetics is studied for its role in forensic and public health Genetics.

Evaluación de la correlación entre atributos genéticos y apellidos: características de STRs autosómicos en individuos con apellido mapuche y europeo

TL;DR: One of the criteria of effective identification in western hemisphere countries is determined by the surname, and in certain regions, the first family names (first family names) are considered important.

Median-joining networks for inferring intraspecific phylogenies.

TL;DR: A method for constructing networks from recombination-free population data that combines features of Kruskal's algorithm for finding minimum spanning trees by favoring short connections, and Farris's maximum-parsimony (MP) heuristic algorithm, which sequentially adds new vertices called "median vectors", except that the MJ method does not resolve ties.

Tandem repeats finder: a program to analyze DNA sequences

TL;DR: A new algorithm for finding tandem repeats which works without the need to specify either the pattern or pattern size is presented and its ability to detect tandem repeats that have undergone extensive mutational change is demonstrated.
