Instrument of student assessment based on nursing managerial competences

AbstractWhen the students conclude the Curricular Training on Nursing Management discipline from the Professional Guidance Department at USP School of Nursing (EE-USP), they answer a self-assessment which scores from zero to ten the trainee program and a also participates in a group assessment, carried out by the professor and nurses from the units, practice fields. In this process, it was applied an instrument aiming at measuring students performance concerning managerial contents. With the purpose of accompanying students' background development according to the Pedagogical-Political Project by EE-USP, aiming at a meaningful learning that minimizes the theory/practice dichotomy, a new instrument was developed to assess students having nursing managerial competences as baseline. This study aims at describing the experience of building up an instrument for students assessment related to the nursing managerial competences. This paper has the purpose of reporting the following prognosticators: planning, decision-taking, supervision, human resource management, material resource management, information system, interpersonal relationship, responsibility, commitment and case study.

Abstract: This study aimed to identify and analyze the scientific literature on the topic of professional competence, strategies of health institutions for its development and implications for nursing. It is an integrative review and search strategy was consultation with the electronic databases MEDLINE, LILACS and SciELO. Data collection was conducted between October and December 2010 and selected articles in Portuguese and English, a total of 23 publications. The thematic analysis of the data enabled the construction of three categories: The meanings of the concept of professional competence, Strategies for development professional competence and Implications for nursing. It was verified the predominance of the concept of professional competence from their constituent elements, knowledge, skills and attitudes, strategies and educational training programs for skills training and actions of management, and nursing, the challenge of train professionals competent and committed.

Abstract: This study aimed at characterizing the potential of continuing education to develop technical, relational/communicational, and ethical/political competences in nurses. This is a qualitative study undertaken with 12 nurses. Data collection was performed through documental analysis, interviews, and observation. Data were analysed on the basis of pre-determined categories: technical, communicational/relational, and ethical/political competences. Our results show that continuing education significantly contributes to the development of professional competences and indicate a predominance of the technical dimension as a way of ensuring security and professional recognition. However, relational/communicational and ethical/political competences are consolidating. They contribute to the interpersonal relationships and to the way of organizing work. Continuing educational processes, which include multiple dimensions of competences, potentiate the process, favoring integration among professionals in a changing world.

Abstract: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar y analizar la literatura cientifica sobre el tema de la competencia profesional, las estrategias de las instituciones de salud para su desarrollo y sus implicaciones para la enfermeria. Se trata de uma revision integradora y estrategia de busqueda se consulta con las bases de datos electronicas MEDLINE, LILACS y SciELO. La recoleccion de datos se realizo entre octubre y diciembre de 2010 y los articulos seleccionados estan em Portugues e Ingles, con un total de 23 publicaciones. El analisis tematico de los datos permitio la construccion de tres categorias: Los significados del concepto de competencia profesional, Estrategias para desarrollar la competencia profesional y Implicaciones para la enfermeria. Se verifico el predominio del concepto de competencia profesional de sus elementos constitutivos, es decir, conocimientos, habilidades y actitudes, estrategias y programas educativos de formacion para la capacitacion y acciones de gestion y de enfermeria, el desafio de la formacion de profesionales competentes y comprometidos.

Abstract: Este artigo apresenta uma reflexao sobre competencias e habilidades no ensino de administracao em enfermagem, tomando por base as Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais, que constituem o documento norteador da educacao universitaria de enfermagem no Brasil. A construcao de competencias e habilidades para a area de administracao em enfermagem faz parte de um conjunto de acoes, que visam a melhoria da preparacao do enfermeiro para enfrentar as transformacoes do mundo do trabalho. O ensino por competencias deve ser direcionado para a integralidade do fazer saude e, diante disso, apontamos algumas competencias que oferecem a nossos educandos oportunidades de aprender a fazer e aprender a ser.

Abstract: A Educacao em Saude no Ensino Superior tem sido objeto de muitos debates acerca da formacao profissional em saude. Portanto, ha a discussao eminente acerca da utilizacao de novas metodologias de ensino a fim de formar profissionais em saude, com habilidades e competencias alem do dominio tecnico-cientifico, que sejam capazes de criar, planejar, implementar e avaliar politicas e acoes em saude para a populacao e, ao mesmo tempo, solucionar problemas. Para isso, metodologias ativas de aprendizagem, como a Aprendizagem Baseada em Problemas, sao utilizadas com o proposito de que estudantes da area da saude adquiram o conhecimento de forma significativa e nao meramente mecânica, como o ensino tradicional ha muitos anos perpetra. Esse estudo tem como objetivo analisar a producao cientifica nacional e internacional acerca dos temas Educacao em Saude, Aprendizagem Baseada em Problemas e Aprendizagem Significativa dos ultimos cinco anos. A maior parte dos estudos evidencia efeitos positivos com a aplicacao de novas estrategias de ensino e ainda, corrobora a necessidade de mudancas na educacao em saude no ensino superior. Alem disso, a maioria das publicacoes se encontram no periodo de 2007 a 2009 e tem como eixo tematico a Aprendizagem Baseada em Problemas.

Abstract: Educational practices are widely used in the health field, both in continuing education for health professionals and health education for the general population. These two fields intersect through the development of educational knowledge oriented by a set of target representations of man and society. Such representations are demonstrated by teaching/learning processes in the four main pedagogical trends in Brazil: traditional, renewed, conditioning-based, and liberating (or the Paulo Freire approach). Based on their respective principles, methods, and individual and social consequences, we contend that liberating pedagogy can produce better results than the others by allowing the student's active participation in the learning process, thus fostering continuous development of human skills in both the health services clientele and health workers.

Abstract: Objetivou-se neste estudo, captar atraves dos alunos do Curso de Enfermagem da FAMEMA como esta sendo construido seu processo de formacao, visando a constituicao de um profissional critico-reflexivo, e identificar as marcas diferenciais deste processo percebidas pelos alunos a partir da logica do Projeto Politico-Pedagogico (PPP). Os sujeitos da pesquisa foram alunos do 4o ano do Curso de Enfermagem, sendo utilizados o grupo focal e a entrevista semi-estruturada como tecnicas de pesquisa. O material empirico foi organizado segundo a tecnica do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo, e procedeu-se em seguida a analise tematica. Evidenciou-se que os alunos conseguiram elaborar uma critica com relacao ao PPP, discriminando e percebendo problemas apontados, mudancas que ocorreram, conflitos gerados num projeto dessa natureza. Ao vivenciarem a realidade concreta, os alunos tambem convivem com os conflitos que permeiam as relacoes construidas no cotidiano, questionando o papel do enfermeiro, refletindo sobre sua postura etica, a fundamentacao para a argumentacao e a sustentacao de sua pratica na equipe.

Abstract: The present article proposes to show a reflection in the nurse's formation on the point of view of educators, philosophers and contemporary researchers. Moacir Gadotti, Edgar Morin e Philippe Perrenoud's theories and reflections were used, as well as the four pillars of the contemporary education, presented in the Delors Account. The adoption of tools like learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together as well as the competences abording, are indispensable devices in the formation of professionals in the modern world. It is believed that in incorporating these new dimensions to the nurse's formation, it will be possible to untie the notts that are to be overcome in the conformation of critic nursing professionals, competent and agents of social transformation.
