Integrated Process Planning and Scheduling in Networked Manufacturing Systems for Industry 4.0: A Review and Framework Proposal

TL;DR: A framework for integrated process planning and scheduling in networked manufacturing systems is proposed and briefly described, along with some main underlying issues, which are further discussed.
Abstract: Integrated process planning and scheduling in networked manufacturing systems plays a crucial role nowadays and in the forthcoming context of Industry 4.0 to enable effective and efficient decisions, and to improve the business market, based on collaboration, along with computer-based distributed manufacturing and management functions. In this paper some insights regarding a literature review carried out about this main subjects analysed are presented and discussed. Moreover, a framework for integrated process planning and scheduling in networked manufacturing systems is proposed and briefly described, along with some main underlying issues, which are further discussed.

TL;DR: The proceedings of the first International Conference on Enterprise Integration Modeling (ICEM) as discussed by the authors have been published and are available for download on the Web site of the IBM Research Research Group.
Abstract: Thank you for reading enterprise integration modeling proceedings of the first international conference. As you may know, people have look numerous times for their favorite books like this enterprise integration modeling proceedings of the first international conference, but end up in infectious downloads. Rather than reading a good book with a cup of coffee in the afternoon, instead they juggled with some harmful bugs inside their laptop.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach to integration of process planning and scheduling is proposed, where two tasks are performed concurrently, and a new process planning combinations selection method using simulation based genetic algorithms.
Abstract: Process planning and scheduling are traditionally regarded as separate tasks performed sequentially. But, if two tasks are performed concurrently, greater performance can be achieved. In this study, we propose new approach to integration of process planning and scheduling. We propose new process planning combinations selection method using simulation based genetic algorithms. Computational experiments show that proposed method yield better performance when compared with existing methods.

TL;DR: An agent-based approach has been developed to facilitate the integration of process planning and scheduling simultaneously, and an optimization agent based on an evolutionary algorithm is used to manage the interactions and communications between agents to enable proper decisions to be made.
Abstract: Traditionally, process planning and scheduling were performed sequentially, where scheduling was done after process plans had been generated. Considering the fact that these two functions are usually complementary, it is necessary to integrate them more tightly so that the performance of a manufacturing system can be improved greatly. In this paper, an agent-based approach has been developed to facilitate the integration of these two functions. In the approach, the two functions are carried out simultaneously, and an optimization agent based on an evolutionary algorithm is used to manage the interactions and communications between agents to enable proper decisions to be made. To verify the feasibility and performance of the proposed approach, experimental studies have been conducted and comparisons have been made between this approach and some previous works. The experimental results show the proposed approach has achieved significant improvement.
