Interactive Information Retrieval in Digital Environments

Abstract: The present paper reports on the initial study and the preliminary findings of how the concept of simulated work task situation is reported used in the research literature. The overall objective of the study is in a systematic manner to learn how and for what types of evaluations the concept is applied. In particular we are interested to learn whether the recommendations for how to apply simulated work task situations are followed.The preliminary findings indicate a need for clarifications of the recommendations of how to use simulated work task situations. Particularly with respect to 'realism' of the simulated work task situations, which is emphasised through the need for tailoring of the simulated work task situations towards the group of study participant to ensure the depicted situations are realistic and interesting from the participants' point of view. Likewise it seems that the recommendation to involve the study participants' own information needs (to function as baseline of search interaction) is generally neglected in the reported studies.

Abstract: Management of data for an organization is crucial task but when data goes to its complex form then it becomes multifaceted as well as vital. In today era most of the organizations generating semi structured or unstructured data that requires special techniques to handle and manage. With the needs to handle unstructured data, semantic web technology provides a way to come up with the effective solution. In this chapter Synthetic Semantic Data Management (SSDM) is explained that is based semantic web technique and will helps to manage data of small and Midsized Enterprise (SME). Abstract: Digital literacy promotes students’ competitiveness and better opportunity in today’s digital world and in the fourth industrial revolution (FIRe). This descriptive-survey research determined the digital literacy of science, technology, engineering & mathematics (STEM) senior high school students. A total of 130 respondents from two state-owned public high schools in Zambales, Philippines answered the digital literacy survey questionnaire. Results revealed that a typical STEM respondent came from school B, aged between 15-17, female and currently Grade 11. The STEM students are digitally literate to some extent in terms of access and evaluation of information; utilization and management of information; media analysis; creation of media products; effective application of technology; and interaction through technology. There is a significant difference in the extent of digital literacy of students when grouped according to sex and grade level. Moderate significant relationship exists across all domains digital literacy. The study recommends the implementation of the proposed digital literacy working group to enhance students’ digital proficiency and to equip them with the challenges of the FIRe. Teachers may likewise utilize digital devices and information effectively and responsibly towards developing digitally literate citizens.

Abstract: The purpose is to present library OPAC as a communication genre in its mutability. The paper is based on the idea of OPAC development as a transition to subsequent OPAC generations. Every generation, in the light of genre theory, can be treated as a subgenre with its own communication purpose. As such, it is subject to transformations caused by information technology development. OPAC development is described as an electronic genre transition process, which allows for distinguishing eight OPAC subgenre generations. They were distinguished based on socio-historical development of the genre system and were described according to Shepherd and Watters1 genre development model. These subgenres are then subjected to genres analysis revealing their basic characteristics (purpose, form and functionality).
