TL;DR: In this article, a measure of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) was developed to explore the relationship between Iranian learners' ICC and their L2 learning motivation, on the one hand, and between gender and the development of ICC.
Abstract: In today's interconnected multicultural world, citizens' differential levels of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) can play an important role in the amount of enthusiasm, time, and efforts they invest in second or foreign language (L2) communication and learning. ICC has recently found its way into L2 theory and research. This study attempted to first develop a measure of ICC and then explore the relationship between Iranian L2 learners' ICC and their L2 learning motivation, on the one hand, and between gender and the development of ICC, on the other. The participants were 180 B.A. English Literature/Translation and M.A. TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) students at several Iranian universities. A test battery including the final version of the ICC questionnaire and an L2-learning motivation questionnaire adapted from Gardner's attitude/motivation test battery was then administered to a random selection of 70 students (M = 30 and F = 40). The correlation results indicated that there ...

TL;DR: It was observed that university students receiving education in the fields of medicine and nursing had good cultural sensitivity levels and those interacting with people from other cultures and speaking a foreign language had significantly highercultural sensitivity levels.
Abstract: Medical and nursing students are expected to be more competent in terms of being acquainted with different cultures and approaching culturally, compared to many other disciplines. This descriptive study was designed to evaluate the cultural sensitivity levels of nursing and medical students and the affecting factors. One hundred and eleven nursing and 164 medical students were included in the study. The data were collected by using a questionnaire questioning the variables that were thought to affect the cultural sensitivity of students and the intercultural sensitivity scale. According to results of the study; it was observed that university students receiving education in the fields of medicine and nursing had good cultural sensitivity levels and those interacting with people from other cultures and speaking a foreign language had significantly higher cultural sensitivity levels (p < 0.05). According to these results, it was thought that it would be useful to develop plannings aimed at increasing the language proficiency in university curriculums and abroad experience opportunities of students, and to design qualitative studies based on interviews and observations aimed at examining the factors affecting the intercultural sensitivity.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of Local Wisdom-Based ELSII Learning Model (LWB-ELSII) on students' problem-solving skills and their communication skills was investigated.
Abstract: ENGLISH: Students’ inadequate 21st century skills are the outcome of teacher-centered learning activities. Previous studies have shown that collaborative inquiry learning improved their generic skills. This experimental research investigated the effect of Local Wisdom-Based ELSII Learning Model (LWB-ELSII) on students’ problem- solving skills (PSS) and their communication skills (CS). Cluster random sampling was carried to select 56 preservice Islamic teachers at Islamic State University of Mataram as samples. The PSS Essay Test (PSET) and the Communication Skills Test (CST) were employed. The data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman’s rho correlation at significance level of .05. The results showed that: 1) there were significant differences in the PSS and CS between the experimental and control groups in favour of experimental group students, and 2) there was a positive and significant correlation between the two dependent variables. It is recommended that lecturers apply LWB-ELSII as an alternative solution in improving students’ performance.

TL;DR: Virtual teams as discussed by the authors enable organizations to become more flexible by providing the impressive productivity of team-based designs in environments where teamwork would have once been impossible, and provide a potent response to the challenges associated with today's downsized and lean organizations, and to the resulting geographical dispersion of essential employees.
Abstract: Executive Overview Managers are challenged to develop strategically flexible organizations in response to increasingly competitive marketplaces. Fortunately, a new generation of information and telecommunications technology provides the foundation for resilient new organizational forms that would have not been feasible only a decade ago. One of the most exciting of these new forms, the virtual team, will enable organizations to become more flexible by providing the impressive productivity of team-based designs in environments where teamwork would have once been impossible. Virtual teams, which are linked primarily through advanced computer and telecommunications technologies, provide a potent response to the challenges associated with today's downsized and lean organizations, and to the resulting geographical dispersion of essential employees. Virtual teams also address new workforce demographics, where the best employees may be located anywhere the world, and where workers demand increasing technological...

TL;DR: The Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS) as mentioned in this paper was developed and assessed reliability and validity of a new instrument, based on a review of the literature, 44 items thought to be important for intercultural sensitivity were generated.
Abstract: The present study developed and assessed reliability and validity of a new instrument, the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS) Based on a review of the literature, 44 items thought to be important for intercultural sensitivity were generated A sample of 414 college students rated these items and generated a 24-item final version of the instrument which contains five factors An assessment of concurrent validity from 162 participants indicated that the ISS was significantly correlated with other related scales, including interaction attentiveness, impression rewarding, self-esteem, self-monitoring, and perspective taking In addition, the predicted validity test from 174 participants showed that individuals with high ISS scores also scored high in intercultural effectiveness and intercultural communication attitude scales Potential limitations of the study were discussed as well (Author/RS) Reproductions supplied by EDRS are the best that can be made from the original document
