TL;DR: In this article, a disordered aluminum oxide grown on recycled aluminum sheets was synthesized by a corrosion/oxidation process, where an aluminum oxide-based structure operating under unusual principles at an extended lifetime resulted when an aluminumoxide layer was inserted between two aluminum electrodes.
Abstract: A disordered aluminum oxide grown on recycled aluminum sheets was synthesized by a corrosion/oxidation process First, aluminum sheets recovered from unusable beverage cans were mechanically polished and dried in air atmosphere Second, corrosion and oxidation into the aqueous solutions were the synthesis stages to produce aluminum oxide Phase formation and electrical conduction of aluminum-oxide layers were validated by X-ray diffraction analysis and current–voltage plots at room temperature An aluminum oxide-based structure operating under unusual principles at an extended lifetime resulted when an aluminum-oxide layer was inserted between two aluminum electrodes This was attributed to an unusual electrical conduction Some suggested models from the circuit theoretic properties are discussed here for potential usefulness for the aluminum oxide synthesized, as an environmental-friendly material that can be further useful into a sustainable scenario

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors reviewed the advances made in the Al and its alloys, focusing on interface morphology, interlayer role, parameters influencing the joining process, their optimisation, modelling and monitoring of the process, etc.
Abstract: ABSTRACT Diffusion bonding (DB) is a novel joining process exploiting diffusion of atoms on faying surfaces when appropriate values of governing parameters such as temperature, pressure and bonding time are applied. In particular, DB of aluminium alloys is well investigated in literature owing to lot many advantages of using Al alloys in engineering applications and challenges due to the formation of oxide films in forming sound joints. This paper elaborately reviews the advances made in the Al and its alloys, focusing on interface morphology, interlayer role, parameters influencing the joining process, their optimisation, modelling and monitoring of the process, etc. At the end, future directions for potential research are also presented.

TL;DR: In this article, a plasmon-enhanced solar desalination device, fabricated by the self-assembly of aluminium nanoparticles into a three-dimensional porous membrane, is demonstrated.
Abstract: Self-assembling aluminium nanoparticles are used to make a plasmon-enhanced device for desalination. Plasmonics has generated tremendous excitement because of its unique capability to focus light into subwavelength volumes1, beneficial for various applications such as light harvesting2,3, photodetection4, sensing5, catalysis6 and so on. Here we demonstrate a plasmon-enhanced solar desalination device, fabricated by the self–assembly of aluminium nanoparticles into a three-dimensional porous membrane. The formed porous plasmonic absorber can float naturally on water surface, efficiently absorb a broad solar spectrum (>96%) and focus the absorbed energy at the surface of the water to enable efficient (∼90%) and effective desalination (a decrease of four orders of magnitude). The durability of the devices has also been examined, indicating a stable performance over 25 cycles under various illumination conditions. The combination of the significant desalination effect, the abundance and low cost of the materials, and the scalable production processes suggest that this type of plasmon-enhanced solar desalination device could provide a portable desalination solution.

TL;DR: The potential for extensive application of cast composites is very large in India, especially in the areas of transportation, energy and electromechanical machinery; the extensive use of composites can lead to large savings in materials and energy, and in several instances, reduce environmental pollution as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: This paper reviews the world wide upsurge in metal matrix composite research and development activities with particular emphasis on cast metal-matrix particulate composites. Extensive applications of cast aluminium alloy MMCs in day-to-day use in transportation as well as durable good industries are expected to advance rapidly in the next decade. The potential for extensive application of cast composites is very large in India, especially in the areas of transportation, energy and electromechanical machinery; the extensive use of composites can lead to large savings in materials and energy, and in several instances, reduce environmental pollution. It is important that engineering education and short-term courses be organized to bring MMCs to the attention of students and engineering industry leaders. India already has excellent infrastructure for development of composites, and has a long track record of world class research in cast metal matrix particulate composites. It is now necessary to catalyze prototype and regular production of selected composite components, and get them used in different sectors, especially railways, cars, trucks, buses, scooters and other electromechanical machinery. This will require suitable policies backed up by funding to bring together the first rate talent in cast composites which already exists in India, to form viable development groups followed by setting up of production plants involving the process engineering capability already available within the country. On the longer term, cast composites should be developed for use in energy generation equipment, electronic packaging aerospace systems, and smart structures.
