TL;DR: In this study, more than 170 research articles are systematically studied to understand security and privacy issues and security threats and attacks are categorized on a single platform and an analysis is provided to explain how and to what extent they damage the targeted IoT systems.
Abstract: The recent two decades have witnessed tremendous growth in Internet of things (IoT) applications. There are more than 50 billion devices connected globally. IoT applications’ connectivity with the Internet persistently victimized them with a divergent range of traditional threats, including viruses, worms, malware, spyware, Trojans, malicious code injections, and backdoor attacks. Traditional threats provide essential services such as authentication, authorization, and accountability. Authentication and authorization are the process of verifying that a subject is bound to an object. Traditional authentication and authorization mechanisms use three different factors to identity a subject to verify if the subject has the right capability to access the object. Further, it is defined that a computer virus is a type of malware. Malware includes computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, and ransomware. There is a high probability that IoT systems can get infected with a more sophisticated form of malware and high-frequency electromagnetic waves. Purpose oriented with distinct nature IoT devices is developed to work in a constrained environment. So there is a dire need to address these security issues because relying on existing traditional techniques is not good. Manufacturers and researchers must think about resolving these security and privacy issues. Most importantly, this study identifies the knowledge and research gap in this area. The primary objective of this systematic literature review is to discuss the divergent types of threats that target IoT systems. Most importantly, the goal is to understand the mode of action of these threats and develop the recovery mechanism to cover the damage. In this study, more than 170 research articles are systematically studied to understand security and privacy issues. Further, security threats and attacks are categorized on a single platform and provide an analysis to explain how and to what extent they damage the targeted IoT systems. This review paper encapsulates IoT security threats and categorizes and analyses them by implementing a comparative study. Abstract: Home automation system has achieved an enormous reputation in recent years, as day-to-day life is getting simpler due to the speedy growth of modern technology. Various implemented systems have been offered in the sphere of Home Automation but have apparently failed to provide cost-effective solutions for the same. In this paper, we provide a low-cost smart Home Automation and Security System (HASS) using Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), and Bluetooth. These materialize the concept of internetworking of smart devices. A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) based on Wi-Fi is considered to monitor and control the smart environment, safety as well as electrical parameters of a smart interconnected home. The Android application-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) on a Smartphone is used to give facility to users for seamless control over the devices in a smart home. It may also consist of home security for example access control and alarm systems. When connected to the Internet, home devices are an important element of the Internet of Things (IoT). Home security includes both the security hardware placed on a property and individuals' personal security practices. Security devices consist of a door locking, alert alarm, lighting, motion detectors, and security camera system. Additionally, several special features include such as ensuring windows are closed, each door is locked, all alarms are activated, and extra keys are not secret outside.

TL;DR: In this article , a customized design of a voice-controlled hardware/software embedded platform is presented to reduce the amount of energy consumption by implementing a customized software-controlled On/Off switch that controls home appliances.
Abstract: In the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), countries are encouraged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. With the rapid technological advancement in the area of home automation and the ever-increasing consumption of energy, it is necessary to adopt smart control systems that help to reduce the cost and emission of greenhouse gases. This work aims to reduce the amount of energy consumption by implementing a customized design of a voice-controlled hardware/software embedded platform. The prototype utilizes an Android mobile application in addition to a software-controlled On/Off switch that controls home appliances. The proposed prototype is cost-effective, power efficient, and user-friendly. An Android-based mobile application also facilitates its usability by controlling home appliances using voice-activated commands. This work demonstrates a fully functional small-scale prototype using Arduino IDE which could easily be scaled up to an industrial scale as an IoT (Internet of Things) device. The energy efficiency of the hardware platform is solely dependent on the Arduino board that acts as a hub between all the electrical appliances and the Firebase mobile application. To optimize the energy consumption of the utilized hardware, different energy-efficient modes are implemented and results are reported.

TL;DR: A wireless sensor network using multiple sensors for early detection of house fires that is able to detect early fire, even when a sensor is not working, while keeping the energy consumption of the sensors at an acceptable level is designed.
Abstract: Fires usually occur in homes because of carelessness and changes in environmental conditions. They cause threats to the residential community and may result in human death and property damage. Consequently, house fires must be detected early to prevent these types of threats. The immediate notification of a fire is the most critical issue in domestic fire detection systems. Fire detection systems using wireless sensor networks sometimes do not detect a fire as a consequence of sensor failure. Wireless sensor networks (WSN) consist of tiny, cheap, and low-power sensor devices that have the ability to sense the environment and can provide real-time fire detection with high accuracy. In this paper, we designed and evaluated a wireless sensor network using multiple sensors for early detection of house fires. In addition, we used the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) to avoid false alarms. To test the results of our fire detection system, we simulated a fire in a smart home using the Fire Dynamics Simulator and a language program. The simulation results showed that our system is able to detect early fire, even when a sensor is not working, while keeping the energy consumption of the sensors at an acceptable level.

TL;DR: This work sets up the scene for a security and privacy threat analysis for a typical smart home architecture using off the shelf components, and employs a smart home IoT architecture that enables users to interact with it through various devices that support smart house management, and analyzes different scenarios to identify possible security and Privacy issues for users.
Abstract: Internet of Things (IoT) can support numerous applications and services in various domains, such as smart cities and smart homes. IoT smart objects interact with other components e.g., proxies, mobile devices, and data collectors, for management, data sharing and other activities in the context of the provided service. Though such components contribute to address various societal challenges and provide new advanced services for users, their limited processing capabilities make them vulnerable to well-known security and privacy threats. Until now various research works have studied security and privacy in IoT, validating this claim. However, to the best of our knowledge literature lacks research focusing on security and privacy flaws introduced in IoT through interactions among different devices supporting a smart home architecture. In particular, we set up the scene for a security and privacy threat analysis for a typical smart home architecture using off the shelf components. To do so, we employ a smart home IoT architecture that enables users to interact with it through various devices that support smart house management, and we analyze different scenarios to identify possible security and privacy issues for users.
