TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the impact of this apparent paradox on the direction of Islam according to Quranic verses, and the interpretation of Jihad that the writer intends to explore best fits the religion which in its nature is peace and salvation.
Abstract: The word Islam as a verbal form is derived from the infinitive Arabic trilateral root of silm, salamet (peace and security). Therefore, if its nature has been peace and salvation, how can we interpret Jihad verses? The subject of this article focuses on this point. In this article, the writer discusses the subject and the impact of this apparent paradox on the direction of Islam according to Quranic verses. The interpretation of Jihad that the writer intends to explore best fits the religion which in its nature is peace and

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the role of reason in faith and statecraft in Islam and suggest that faith and reason are mutually amenable, and their sustained bondage is essential for forward movement of the state, its citizenry and the statecraft.
Abstract: Role of reason in faith and statecraft in Islam is the central feature that this article attempts to investigate. The underlying argument that constitutes the premise of the paper is the suggestion that faith and reason are mutually amenable, and their sustained bondage is essential for forward movement of the state, its citizenry and the statecraft. A key question being looked at is whether or not intellectual movement in Islam is experiencing stagnation or otherwise. Following a systematic enquiry pathway, the discourse thereforeexamines how, to what extent, and for how long reason has guided development of Islamic jurisprudence and political thought with contingent bearing upon direction of the state and statecraft until contemporary Muslim environment. Among others, the discussion engages with controversies surrounding ijtihad as well as the question of Islam versus modernity with necessary reference to secularism. The paper concludes by resolving the issues raised.

TL;DR: The root causes of terrorism in South Asian countries are three factors: support from the state, supportive societal infrastructure, and management of terrorist organization as mentioned in this paper, which are primarily responsible for the root cause of terrorism.
Abstract: South Asian countries, the home to one fifth of the world humanity, are overpopulated, poverty stricken, underdeveloped and poorly governed. Except the two island nations, Sri Lanka and Maldives, rest of the South Asian countries viz. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Iran have messy borders and a messier history of conflict. People in this region are an incendiary mix of strong ethnic identities and diverse religious communities, many of which are concentrated within exclusionary ghettoes making the region a potential breeding ground of terrorism. Religious sanction, state support and supportive societal infrastructure to terrorism along with hateful ideologies have made the region the victim as well as the accused of terrorism. Three factors are primarily responsible for the root causes of terrorism – a) support from the state, b) supportive societal infrastructure, and c) management of terrorist organization.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined how the youth of Nigeria misperceived the concept of Jihad from the Islamic point of view which led to the dangerous movement that metamorphosed into a full-blown insurgency and terrorism.
Abstract: Islamic religion is arguably the most misunderstood and misinterpreted contemporarily even by the followers of the religion. Several Quranic injunctions and Prophetic Hadiths were misconstrued, misperceived and misutilised by especially the youth with little knowledge of the religion towards revolutionary and extremists’ activities such as insurgency and terrorism. This work is an attempt in examining how the Jama’atu Ahlul Sunnah Lid Da’awati Wal Jihad (popularly known as Boko Haram) in Northeastern Nigeria misperceived the concept of Jihad from the Islamic point of view which led to the dangerous movement that metamorphosed into a full-blown insurgency and terrorism. The work adopted both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary source is the consultation of scriptures such as the Holy Quran, Holy Bible and Prophetic Hadith which are direct sources of Islamic law. The secondary sources include books, journals, newspapers, reports and internet sources. The data obtained were analysed and discussed using content analysis. The research discovered that the youth are misguided and misdirected with wrong notions of the real meaning and approaches to Jihad and interpretations of Jihad in Nigerian society in consideration with the current Fatwas (injunctions) on its context and application which led them towards extremism in taking weapons to embark on insurgency and terrorism. The work recommends that there is a need for monitoring of religious activities by the state and censorship through strict monitoring of religious movements and activities for preaching and there is a need for proper teaching religious provisions which is necessary to avert such movements in future.
