TL;DR: In this article, the coastdown time (CDT) monitoring of power driven rotating systems during every routine stoppage was investigated for prediction of onset of failure, and the CDP plots were made for a variable speed motor with oil, multipurpose grease and Servogem grease lubrication.

TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of decelerating a rotor from a high speed through its critical speeds has received very little attention in technical literature although transient processes occurring during coastdown of machinery usually provide a lot of information about their tribodynamics.

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that the performance of a bearing in terms of the actual film viscosity depends on the temperature of the film, which in general is unknown, and it is not commonly realized that there is a rational solution for this problem.
Abstract: The modern understanding of lubrication is based on the equations of the hydrodynamic theory These equations, as has been seen, describe the performance of a bearing in terms of the actual film viscosity but, of course, this depends on the temperature of the film, which in general is unknown We have next to consider whether there is any way of calculating or predicting the steady running temperature of a bearingIt is not commonly realized that there is a rational solution for this problemThe solution depends both on the rate of generating heat by friction, and on the rate of heat transfer from the bearing to its surroundings

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental investigation carried out of the coastdown characteristics of a variable-speed d.c. motor and a motor-rotor system is detailed in terms of speed vs. time.
