TL;DR: This review presents an overview of the most important catalytic systems recently described for aerobic oxidation, and the current insight in their reaction mechanism.
Abstract: Oxidation reactions are a key technology to transform hydrocarbons from petroleum feedstock into chemicals of a higher oxidation state, allowing further chemical transformations. These bulk-scale oxidation processes usually employ molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant as at this scale it is typically the only economically viable oxidant. The produced commodity chemicals possess limited functionality and usually show a high degree of symmetry thereby avoiding selectivity issues. In sharp contrast, in the production of fine chemicals preference is still given to classical oxidants. Considering the strive for greener production processes, the use of O2 , the most abundant and greenest oxidant, is a logical choice. Given the rich functionality and complexity of fine chemicals, achieving regio/chemoselectivity is a major challenge. This review presents an overview of the most important catalytic systems recently described for aerobic oxidation, and the current insight in their reaction mechanism.

TL;DR: A review of the recent developments on the oxygen-mediated cleavage of olefins and acetylene derivatives to provide carbonyl and carboxylic compounds is provided in this article.
Abstract: This review provides an overview of the recent developments on the oxygen-mediated cleavage of olefins and acetylene derivatives to provide carbonyl and carboxylic compounds. A number of photo, organo, and metal catalysts have been reviewed with an emphasis on those exhibiting superior performance. For this purpose, crucial aspects such as pressure, substrate scope, product selectivity for the target aldehydes, ketones, or carboxylic acids, catalyst amount, and recyclability are discussed. Although many improvements are required to match the results provided by conventional oxidants, aerobic cleavage of such unsaturated hydrocarbons is a very promising field in progress on account of the significant achievements extracted from the recent literature. Several postulated mechanisms are also provided to gain insight into the role of the catalysts and the incorporation of oxygen atoms into the products.

TL;DR: In this paper, a tetra(n-butyl)ammonium salt of ironIII-substituted phosphotungstate@lead oxide composite, (TBA)4PW11Fe@PbO, was successfully synthesized by the thermal decomposition method as a nanocatalyst for oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of gas oil.
Abstract: In this paper, a tetra(n-butyl)ammonium salt of ironIII-substituted phosphotungstate@lead oxide composite, (TBA)4PW11Fe@PbO, was successfully synthesized by the thermal decomposition method as a nanocatalyst for oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of gas oil. The incorporation of the materials was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) characterization methods. To evaluate the catalytic activity of (TBA)4PW11Fe@PbO, the ODS process was carried out using a CH3COOH/H2O2 oxidizing agent at 60 °C. From the attained results, the total sulfur and mercaptan content of real gas oil were reduced with 97% efficiency after 2 h. Furthermore, the various comparative experiments were performed to investigate the capability of (TBA)4PW11Fe@PbO in ODS of prepared model fuel. Results were indicated that the kinetics of sulfur oxida...

TL;DR: A survey of polyoxometalates can be found in this paper, where the authors survey the chemistry, structures, and applications of these species, as well as their applications in inorganic chemistry.
Abstract: Combined oxygen, in the form of water, metal oxides, silicates and other oxyions, accounts for about 50% by weight of the earth's crust. The chemistry of this most abundant element has two major aspects: that of water and aqueous solutions of electrolytes, and that of the solid state. The methodology and techniques appropriate for the study of these fields are sufficiently different that there have been very few points of contact between solution- and solid state chemists. One such contact, of great potential value, is provided by the extensive class of polyoxoanions formed by the transition metals of groups 5 and 6. As 'heteropoly and isopoly acids' these polyanions have been known and investigated for more than a century. The pre sent book is an attempt to survey the chemistry, structures, and applications of these species. Although the book forms part of a series in inorganic chemistry, the field of polyoxometalates deserves wider attention, for example, from organic chemists, especially those concerned with homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, and from biochemists, solid state- and materials scientists."

Abstract: Polyoxometalates (POMs) are a subset of metal oxides that represent a diverse range of molecular clusters with an almost unmatched range of physical properties and the ability to form dynamic structures that can range in size from the nano- to the micrometer scale Herein we present the very latest developments from synthesis to structure and function of POMs We discuss the possibilities of creating highly sophisticated functional hierarchical systems with multiple, interdependent, functionalities along with a critical analysis that allows the non-specialist to learn the salient features We propose and present a "periodic table of polyoxometalate building blocks" We also highlight some of the current issues and challenges that need to be addressed to work towards the design of functional systems based upon POM building blocks and look ahead to possible emerging application areas
