01 Jan 1990-Computers & Structures (Pergamon)-Vol. 34, Iss: 2, pp 349-353
TL;DR: The application of the Lanczos algorithm for the solution of eigenvalue problems connected with cyclic symmetric objects is studied and it is shown that the approach remarkably reduces the computational effort without loss of accuracy.

TL;DR: In this article, a recent version of the Lanczos method and the subspace method were used to solve the eigen problem in structural analysis and the advantages of these methods were discussed.
Abstract: In this paper we consider solution of the eigen problem in structural analysis using a recent version of the Lanczos method and the subspace method. The two methods are applied to examples and we conclude that the Lanczos method has advantages which are too good to overlook.

TL;DR: In this paper, a rotationally periodic structure consisting of a finite number of identical sub-structures forming a closed ring is considered, and all the modes can be found from matrix analyses of a single sub-structure.

TL;DR: The Lanczos method is programmed in a truncated version where the generalized eigenvalue problem is transformed into a standard eigenproblem of a tri-diagonal matrix of reduced order and it is now a very efficient method for the partial eigensolution of large, sparse, symmetric matrices.
