In this article, the effect of transverse gap ratio (T/D) on the flow characteristics has been studied using large eddy simulation (LES) technique, and the results in terms of aerodynamic forces, Strouhal number, mean base pressure coefficient, streamlines, vorticity, surface pressure distribution, normal and shear stresses are presented.Abstract:
A uniform flow past two unequal sized square cylinders arranged in a side-by-side pattern and at a Reynolds number of 50,000 has been investigated using large eddy simulation (LES) technique. The modelling of sub-grid scales of turbulence is done using the Smagorinsky model. The effect of the transverse gap ratio (T/D) on the flow characteristics has been studied. Numerical simulations are carried out for five different transverse gap ratios (T/D), namely 1.120, 1.250, 1.375, 1.750 and 2.500. Results in terms of the aerodynamic forces, Strouhal number, mean base pressure coefficient, streamlines, vorticity, surface pressure distribution, normal and shear stresses are presented. A shift in the stagnation point for the small square cylinder from the centre of its front face towards its gap side is seen at smaller T/D ratios. The presence of a jet-like flow seen in the gap side is more pronounced at T/D = 1.12. A biased gap side flow towards the near wake of the small square cylinder is seen at smaller T/D r...read more

Large eddy simulation of separation control over a backward-facing step flow by suction
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of suction control on the flow fields was scrutinised by altering the suction flow coefficient, and the results indicated that suction is not only very effective in shortening the reattachment length but also very influential in reducing the tangential velocity gradient and turbulence fluctuations of reattached flows.

A computational study of flow past three unequal sized square cylinders at different positions
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of cylinders position on flow patterns were investigated using the lattice Boltzmann method for the Reynolds number Re = 160 and different values of the gap spacing between the cylinders, g, (ranging between 0.5 and 5).

General circulation experiments with the primitive equations
TL;DR: In this article, an extended period numerical integration of a baroclinic primitive equation model has been made for the simulation and the study of the dynamics of the atmosphere's general circulation, and the solution corresponding to external gravitational propagation is filtered by requiring the vertically integrated divergence to vanish identically.

Calculating three-dimensional flows around structures and over rough terrain☆
TL;DR: In this paper, a computing technique for low-speed fluid dynamics has been developed for the calculation of three-dimensional flows in the vicinity of one or more block-type structures, where the full time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations are solved with a finite-difference scheme based on the Marker-and-Cell method.
