This paper offers a reflection on the essential characteristics and conditions of communication, hence on what makes communication possible. Reflection on communication inevitably calls for a focus on the production of meaning and understanding, on the problem of interpretation. The primary vocation of communication is the other, therefore dialogic listening and responsiveness by the other for the other, beyond communication with the same, that is, beyond the conventions of official communication and the order of discourse. The paper is developed according to the following main topics: 1. Utterance, text, interpretation; 2. The apparent paradox of communication; 3. The “rustle” of communication: between implicit meaning and explicit meaning; 4. Sense, significance, ambiguity: reading together Welby and Bakhtin; 5. More characteristics of live discourse—silence, listening, responsive understanding.

La lisibilite de l'autorite dans les organisations se complique lorsque la structure hierarchique n'est pas soutenue par un organigramme precis. Des phenomenes d'autorite peuvent egalement apparaitre en des lieux et a des instants dont ne rend pas compte la hierarchie formelle (Diefenbach & Sillince, 2011). A partir de l'exemple de Wikipedia, l'encyclopedie libre sur Internet, cet article propose un outil methodologique utile au chercheur et au praticien de la communication pour extraire les figures d'autorites dans les organisations, independamment du statut formel des acteurs concernes.

Comprendre l'autorité dans les organisations : une méthode par imbrication

George Eliot n’a jamais connu un grand succes en France et c’est ce probleme de reception qui m’a poussee a me pencher sur les traductions francaises de son oeuvre. The Mill on the Floss, son deuxieme roman, a fait l’objet de six traductions, dont trois sont etudiees dans cet article : la premiere par Francois D’Albert-Durade (1863), la deuxieme par Lucienne Molitor (1957) et enfin la derniere par Alain Jumeau (2003). Il semble bien qu’un aspect de la prose eliotienne resiste a la traduction vers le francais ; il s’agit de la presence de voix multiples dans le roman, dont plusieurs qui relevent du sociolecte paysan anglais du XIXe siecle. Grâce a l’etude de la voix d’un personnage et de la voix narrative, cet article offre la confrontation des trois traductions couvrant une periode d’un siecle et demi, afin de retracer le parcours traductif d’un roman victorien dans l’Hexagone.

Traduction et réception d’une auteure victorienne en France : le cas de George Eliot

In its broadest scope, this essay is about the make-up of cultural contemporaneity. Since this is too vast an issue for an article in a learned journal, I shall limit myself to just one specific aspect of the fabric of contemporary culture: the fabrication of new cultural heroes. Cultural heroes are what Baudelaire calls “les phares” in one of the poems of Les Fleurs du mal. They are constitutive of community identity, capable of crystallizing in an anthropomorphic figure major forces, new trends, and of offering models of behavior in contemporary cultural life. The question “how do communities give themselves cultural identities?” has as a partial answer: through cultural heroes. Interestingly, quite a few cultural heroes of our cultural contemporaneity are fabricated from the mold of historical Baroque figures. Why is this the case, and how does this function?––these are the more specific questions I would like to answer in this essay.
