Learning Automata-Based Channel Reservation Scheme to Enhance QoS in Vehicular Adhoc Networks

TL;DR: A channel reservation procedure based on learning automata and node speed to improve the QoS in VANET is proposed and channel reusability technique is incorporated to make the efficient usage of channels.
Abstract: The very high mobility of the nodes in Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANET) increases the rate at which the handoff occurs. This motivates researchers to investigate the novel strategies for channel allocation such that the handoff becomes transparent. At the same time the utilization of the channels need to be effective in order to enhance the QoS. Hence this paper proposes a channel reservation procedure based on learning automata and node speed to improve the QoS in VANET. Channel reusability technique is incorporated to make the efficient usage of channels. The percentage of dropped calls and handoff latency are used as metrics to evaluate the proposed method.

TL;DR: The simulation model of channel and power level selection is build and the results of simulation display the improvement of VANET performance in term of SINR and throughput from the proposed scheme.
Abstract: This paper proposes a scheme of channel selection and transmission power adjustment in Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) using game theoretic approach. The paradigm of VANET enables groups of vehicles to establish a mesh-like communication network. However, the mobility of vehicle, highly dynamic network environment, and the shared-spectrum concept used in VANET pose some challenges such as interference that can decrease the quality of signal. Channel selection and transmit power adjustment are aimed to obtain the higher signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR). In this paper, game theory is implemented to model the channel and power level selection in VANET. Each vehicle represents the player and the combination of channel and power level represents the strategy used by the player to obtain the utility i.e. the SINR. Strategy selection is arranged distributively to each player using Regret Matching Learning (RML) algorithm. Each vehicle evaluates current utility obtained by selecting a strategy to define the probability of that strategy to be selected in the next time. However, RML has a shortcoming for using assumption that hard to be implemented in real VANET environment. Therefore modification of RML devised for this application is also proposed. The simulation model of channel and power level selection is build to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The results of simulation display the improvement of VANET performance in term of SINR and throughput from the proposed scheme.

TL;DR: A study of multi-channel allocation in orthogonal frequency multiple access vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) under physical channel model and an optimization method based on meta-heuristic approach are presented.
Abstract: Vehicular networking has a promising potential as a communication medium to relay the information related with the road safety, traffic efficiency and infotainment and thus many researches are conducted in this area. This research presents a study of multi-channel allocation in orthogonal frequency multiple access vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) under physical channel model. The performance of channel allocation using the altered number of channels allocated per vehicle is observed. An optimization method for channel allocation is also presented. The optimization method is based on meta-heuristic approach namely bacterial foraging optimization algorithm (DBFO). The sets of channels allocated to vehicles are represented by the position of bacterium. To improve the performance of channel allocation, the signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) of vehicles is used as the objective function of DBFO. Hence, DBFO is utilized to find the appropriate channels for vehicles so that the SINR and the throughput of vehicles can be increased. The performances of multi-channel allocation in VANET and the proposed optimization method are observed through the extensive simulations. The results of the simulations show that increasing the number of channels allocated per vehicle can decrease the SINR average since the interference level increases. Meanwhile the vehicle throughput increases since the more channels allocated to vehicles means the more bandwidth utilized.

TL;DR: The results show that the proposed algorithm, DLCA outperforms in terms of blocking and dropping probability and the system is made learned deeply to determine the number of channels that each base station can acquire and also dynamically varying based on the time.
Abstract: The usage of mobile nodes is increasing very rapidly and so it is very essential to have an efficient channel allocation procedure for the next generation cellular networks. It is very expensive to increase the existing available spectrum. Hence, it is always better to utilize the existing spectrum in an effective way. In view of this, this paper proposes a channel allocation algorithm for next generation cellular networks which is based on deep learning. The system is made learned deeply to determine the number of channels that each base station can acquire and also dynamically varying based on the time. The originating and handoff calls are two different types of calls being considered in this paper. The number of channels that be exclusively used for originating calls and handoff calls is determined using deep learning. STWQ—Non-LA and STWQ—LAR are used to compare with the proposed work. The results show that the proposed algorithm, DLCA outperforms in terms of blocking and dropping probability.

TL;DR: In this article, an enhanced reliable solution has been proposed for the problem of load management by introducing virtual machines into the network, which has shown improved results over a load-balancing mobility model for VANETs existing in the literature.
Abstract: The fastest emerging communication infrastructure in today’s world comprises Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET). The performance of the VANET infrastructure critically depends on the routing assignment that is successful transmission of data from the source to the destination. The major challenges faced by these complex networks are battery consumption, congestion, trust management, and security, etc. In this paper, an enhanced reliable solution has been proposed for the problem of load management by introducing virtual machines into the network. The result analysis reveals that the proposed framework is efficient and has shown improved results over a load-balancing mobility model for VANETs existing in the literature. The network performance has been evaluated and compared using various Quality of Service (QoS) parameters such as energy, delay, and throughput.

TL;DR: Some of the VANET research challenges that still need to be addressed to enable the ubiquitous deployment and widespead adoption of scalable, reliable, robust, and secure VANet architectures, protocols, technologies, and services are outlined.
Abstract: Recent advances in hardware, software, and communication technologies are enabling the design and implementation of a whole range of different types of networks that are being deployed in various environments. One such network that has received a lot of interest in the last couple of years is the Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET). VANET has become an active area of research, standardization, and development because it has tremendous potential to improve vehicle and road safety, traffic efficiency, and convenience as well as comfort to both drivers and passengers. Recent research efforts have placed a strong emphasis on novel VANET design architectures and implementations. A lot of VANET research work have focused on specific areas including routing, broadcasting, Quality of Service (QoS), and security. We survey some of the recent research results in these areas. We present a review of wireless access standards for VANETs, and describe some of the recent VANET trials and deployments in the US, Japan, and the European Union. In addition, we also briefly present some of the simulators currently available to VANET researchers for VANET simulations and we assess their benefits and limitations. Finally, we outline some of the VANET research challenges that still need to be addressed to enable the ubiquitous deployment and widespead adoption of scalable, reliable, robust, and secure VANET architectures, protocols, technologies, and services.
