Abstract: This article reviews several definitions of the fractional Laplace operator (-Delta)^{alpha/2} (0 < alpha < 2) in R^d, also known as the Riesz fractional derivative operator, as an operator on Lebesgue spaces L^p, on the space C_0 of continuous functions vanishing at infinity and on the space C_{bu} of bounded uniformly continuous functions. Among these definitions are ones involving singular integrals, semigroups of operators, Bochner's subordination and harmonic extensions. We collect and extend known results in order to prove that all these definitions agree: on each of the function spaces considered, the corresponding operators have common domain and they coincide on that common domain.

Abstract: Consider a model of a financial market with a stock driven by a Levy process and constant interest rate. A closed formula for prices of perpetual American call options in terms of the overall supremum of the Levy process, and a corresponding closed formula for perpetual American put options involving the infimum of the after-mentioned process are obtained. As a direct application of the previous results, a Black-Scholes type formula is given. Also as a consequence, simple explicit formulas for prices of call options are obtained for a Levy process with positive mixed-exponential and arbitrary negative jumps. In the case of put options, similar simple formulas are obtained under the condition of negative mixed-exponential and arbitrary positive jumps. Risk-neutral valuation is discussed and a simple jump-diffusion model is chosen to illustrate the results.

Abstract: We review work on extreme events, their causes and consequences, by a group of European and American researchers involved in a three-year project on these topics. The review covers theoretical aspects of time series analysis and of extreme value theory, as well as of the deterministic modeling of extreme events, via continuous and discrete dynamic models. The applications include climatic, seismic and socio-economic events, along with their prediction. Two important results refer to (i) the complementarity of spectral analysis of a time series in terms of the continuous and the discrete part of its power spectrum; and (ii) the need for coupled modeling of natural and socio-economic systems. Both these results have implications for the study and prediction of natural hazards and their human impacts.

Abstract: In a continuous time random walk (CTRW), a random waiting time pre- cedes each random jump. The CTRW model is useful in physics, to model diusing par- ticles. Its scaling limit is a time-changed process, whose densities solve an anomalous diusion equation. This paper develops limit theory and governing equations for cluster CTRW, in which a random number of jumps cluster together into a single jump. The clus- tering introduces a dependence between the waiting times and jumps that significantly aects the asymptotic limit. Vector jumps are considered, along with oracle CTRW, where the process anticipates the next jump.

Abstract: We contribute to the understanding of how systemic risk arises in a network of credit-interlinked agents. Motivated by empirical studies we formulate a network model which, despite its simplicity, depicts the nature of interbank markets better than a homogeneous model. The components of a vector Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process living on the vertices of the network describe the nancial robustnesses of the agents. For this system, we prove a LLN for growing network size leading to a propagation of chaos result. We state properties, which arise from such a structure, and examine the eect of inhomogeneity on several risk management issues and the possibility of contagion.

Abstract: Let us consider a real L\'evy process X whose transition probabilities are absolutely continuous and have bounded densities. Then the law of the past supremum of X before any deterministic time t is absolutely continuous on (0,\infty). We show that its density f_t(x) is continuous on (0,\infty) if and only if the potential density h' of the upward ladder height process is continuous on (0,\infty). Then we prove that f_t behaves at 0 as h'. We also describe the asymptotic behaviour of f_t, when t tends to infinity. Then some related results are obtained for the density of the meander and this of the entrance law of the L\'evy process conditioned to stay positive.

Abstract: In this paper we analyse financial implications of exchangeability and similar properties of finite dimensional random vectors. We show how these properties are reflected in prices of some basket options in view of the well-known put-call symmetry property and the duality principle in option pricing. A particular attention is devoted to the case of asset prices driven by Levy processes. Based on this, concrete semi-static hedging techniques for multi-asset barrier options, such as certain weighted barrier spread options, weighted barrier swap options or weighted barrier quanto-swap options are suggested.
