Liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy is one of the most studied models of cell, organ, and tissue regeneration. The complexity of the signaling pathways initiating and terminating this process have provided paradigms for regenerative medicine. Many aspects of the signaling mechanisms involved in hepatic regeneration are under active investigation. The purpose of this review is to focus on the areas still not well understood. The review also aims to provide insights into the ways by which current concepts of liver regeneration can provide understanding regarding malfunction of the regenerative process in liver diseases, such as acute liver failure.read more

Hepatology SnapshotLiver regeneration
TL;DR: A fresh look at the fundamentals of liver regeneration in light of recent technical innovations is taken, and it is demonstrated that there are three peaks of DNA synthesis after PH, initially in zone 1, then in the mid-lobule, and 15% of pre-existing hepatocytes never divide after PH.

Regulation of hepatic blood flow: the hepatic arterial buffer response revisited.
TL;DR: The current paper reviews the relevance of this intimate hepatic blood flow regulatory system in health and disease and exclusively focuses on the endogenous interrelationship between the hepatic arterial and portal venous inflow circuits in liver resection and transplantation, as well as inflammatory and chronic liver diseases.

Preparation of isolated rat liver cells.
TL;DR: This chapter discusses preparation of isolated rat liver cells by incubation of rat liver minces with pronase, which results in most of the liver parenchyma is digested, while nonparenchymal cells remain intact and can be recovered from the incubate.

TL;DR: The nucleotide sequence of the human HGF cDNA reveals that both α- andβ-chains are contained in a single open reading frame coding for a pre-pro precursor protein of 728 amino acids, which indicates that the activity of HGF is not species-specific.
