TLDR
The magnetocrystalline anisotropy of thin magnetic wires of iron and cobalt is quite different from the bulk phases as discussed by the authors, and the ballistic conductance of the wire depends on the direction of the applied magnetic field, i.e. shows anisotropic ballistic magnetoresistance.

Compositional variation of magnetic moment, magnetic anisotropy energy and coercivity in Fe(1−x)M x (M = Co/Ni) nanowires: an ab initio study

TL;DR: In this paper, the magnetic and electronic properties of freestanding Fe(1−x)M −Co/Ni nanowires were investigated using ab initio simulations, and the magnetic anisotropy energy of the nanowire was observed to change sign with the increase of Co and Ni content.

Magnetic properties of finite Co chains on Pt(111)

TL;DR: In this paper, the magnetic moments and magnetic anisotropy energies of finite monoatomic Co chains were calculated using the embedded-cluster technique within the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method.

Understanding Thickness Dependent Magnetic Properties of Ultra-Thin Films

TL;DR: Martin et al. as discussed by the authors proposed a framework for the use of the SBSU Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy as a research site for the Stony Brook University Libraries in physics.

First principles calculations of magnetic anisotropy energy of Co monatomic wires

TL;DR: Using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave method, magnetocrystalline anisotropy energies of Co monatomic chains on top of the Cu (001) and Pt(001) substrates, as well as in the free standing cases, were investigated as discussed by the authors.

Multivalued dependence of the magnetoresistance on the quantized conductance in nanosize magnetic contacts

TL;DR: In this article, the quantized conductance of nanosize point contacts between two ferromagnets for different mutual orientations of the magnetic moments is calculated and it is shown that the magnetoresistance (MR) is a multivalued function of the quantised conductance at the parallel alignment of the magnetizations.

Anomalous ferromagnetism of a monatomic Co wire at the Pt(111) surface step edge

TL;DR: Gambardella et al. as discussed by the authors investigated the anomalous ferromagnetism of a quasi-one-dimensional Co chain at the Pt(111) step edge and showed that the symmetry breaking at the step leads to an easy magnetization axis at an odd angle of

Reflection of electrons from a domain wall in magnetic nanojunctions

TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical analysis of electron transport through thin and laterally constrained domain walls in ferromagnetic nano-junctions is presented, which is formulated in the basis of scattering states.
