In this article, the effect of Co substitution on the magnetostriction of (Fe 1-x Co x )Tb compounds is discussed on the basis of the single ion model.
Abstract
The magnetostriction of (Fe 1-x Co x ) Tb (0?×?1.0) compounds and amorphous Fe 3 Tb alloys were measured at room temperature and at 77K. The value of ? ? -? ? at 77K and 20 kOe of (Fe 1-x Co x ) 3 Tb compounds increases drastically from 1500×10?6 to 3000×10?6 as x is increased from 0 to 1.0. The value of ? ? -? ? for amorphous Fe 3 Tb is about 30 to 40% smaller than the value for the crystalline material. The effect of Co substitution on the magnetostriction of (Fe 1-x Co x )Tb compounds is discussed on the basis of the single ion model. The magnetic field dependence of magnetostriction in Fe 3 Tb amorphous alloy is also discussed in connection with the magnetization process.

Anomalous magnetization of amorphous Tb Fe 2 , Gd Fe 2 , and Y Fe 2

TL;DR: Magnetization data on sputter-deposited amorphous materials are presented in this paper, where the rare earth elements Tb, Gd, and Y exhibit ferrimagnetic order with Curie temperatures approximately 40% lower than the equivalent Laves phase compounds.

Magnetostriction and structural distortion in rare-earth intermetallics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors predict the occurrence of a structural distortion which vanishes only when [100] is the easy magnetization direction and provide an explanation of the observed size and anisotropy of the magnetostriction in rare earth cubic compounds.

Magnetostriction and structural distortion in rare earth intermetallics. [RT/sub 2/]

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors predict the occurrence of a structural distortion which vanishes only when (100) is the easy magnetization direction, and an extraordinary external strain accompanies the distortion and provides an explanation of the observed size and anisotropy of the magnetostriction in RFe/sub 2.

Magnetostrictive properties of Tb .3 Dy .7 (Fe 1-x Co x ) 1.9 and Tb .3 Dy .7 (Fe 1-x Ni x ) 1.9

TL;DR: In this paper, measurements of Curie temperature, magnetic moment and magnetostriction were made on Tb.3 Dy.7 (Fe 1-x T x ) 1.9 where T = Co and Ni ( 0 \leq x 1 for Co and 0 ≤ ≤ 0.08 for Ni).
