Journal ArticleDOI

Number of degrees of freedom, fisher information, and frequency-time products of a random process

TL;DR: The NDF defined in this paper is based on the sample moments, it can easily be calculated from the observed data and useful features can be derived such as the correlation time and the equivalent bandwidth, which is of practical use.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of forward speed on the level-crossing distribution of kinematic variables in multidirectional ocean waves

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of forward speed on stochastic free-surface crossing, in a Gaussian wave field, is investigated; the case of a material point moving with a constant forward speed is considered; the wave field is assumed stationary in time, and homogeneous in space.
Book ChapterDOI

Die Sinnesorgane als Informationsempfänger

TL;DR: The Schicksal der Signale beim empfangsseitigen Kommunikationspartner, dem Perzipienten, betrachten, d. h. im psychophysiologischen Bereich is verfolgt as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

A note on asymptotic approximations of distributions for maxima of wave crests

TL;DR: In this article, the authors review results from the theory and study the accuracy of these approximations by exemplifying with a model for wave heights from oceanography, showing that for high values and the time periods normally encountered for buoy measurements, care should be taken in use of approximation based on the Gumbel distribution.
