The motivation for new mm-wave cellular systems, methodology, and hardware for measurements are presented and a variety of measurement results are offered that show 28 and 38 GHz frequencies can be used when employing steerable directional antennas at base stations and mobile devices.Abstract:
The global bandwidth shortage facing wireless carriers has motivated the exploration of the underutilized millimeter wave (mm-wave) frequency spectrum for future broadband cellular communication networks. There is, however, little knowledge about cellular mm-wave propagation in densely populated indoor and outdoor environments. Obtaining this information is vital for the design and operation of future fifth generation cellular networks that use the mm-wave spectrum. In this paper, we present the motivation for new mm-wave cellular systems, methodology, and hardware for measurements and offer a variety of measurement results that show 28 and 38 GHz frequencies can be used when employing steerable directional antennas at base stations and mobile devices.read more

Tractable Resource Management With Uplink Decoupled Millimeter-Wave Overlay in Ultra-Dense Cellular Networks
TL;DR: In this article, the authors aim at maximizing the overall downlink (DL) rate with a minimum uplink (UL) rate constraint, and conclude that mmW tends to focus more on DL transmissions while UL has high priority for complementing DL transmissions under time-division duplex (TDD) mmW operations.

Coverage and rate trends in dense urban mmWave cellular networks
TL;DR: It is observed that dense base station (BS) deployment is the key to achieve both better coverage and rates in mmWave cellular networks, and the inadequacy of existing blockage models is shown and a better blockage model is validated.

Symbol-Level and Multicast Precoding for Multiuser Multiantenna Downlink: A State-of-the-Art, Classification, and Challenges
Maha Alodeh,Danilo Spano,Ashkan Kalantari,Christos G. Tsinos,Dimitrios Christopoulos,Symeon Chatzinotas,Bjorn Ottersten +6 more
TL;DR: A unified view and classification of precoding techniques with respect to two main axes is presented: 1) the switching rate of the precoding weights, leading to the classes of block-level and symbol-level precoding and 2) the number of users that each stream is addressed to, hence unicast, multicast, and broadcast precoding.
