MIMO enabled efficient mapping of data in WiMAX networks

TL;DR: This paper proposes a cross layered mapping technique that exploits multiple antenna available at each MS that achieves higher throughput compared to the existing techniques while providing the same reliability.
Abstract: MIMO techniques supported by IEEE 802.16 networks improve either throughput or reliability in the network. But these MIMO techniques do not always perform optimally, especially in the presence of high mobility. In this paper, we propose a cross layered mapping technique that exploits multiple antenna available at each MS. An optional error correction mechanism is proposed at the receiver to correct erroneously received signal. Finally, using extensive simulations we show that the proposed technique achieves higher throughput compared to the existing techniques while providing the same reliability. We also show that the proposed technique can be a stand alone technique and adaptive switching of MIMO techniques is not required.

TL;DR: This paper presents a simple two-branch transmit diversity scheme that provides the same diversity order as maximal-ratio receiver combining (MRRC) with one transmit antenna, and two receive antennas.
Abstract: This paper presents a simple two-branch transmit diversity scheme. Using two transmit antennas and one receive antenna the scheme provides the same diversity order as maximal-ratio receiver combining (MRRC) with one transmit antenna, and two receive antennas. It is also shown that the scheme may easily be generalized to two transmit antennas and M receive antennas to provide a diversity order of 2M. The new scheme does not require any bandwidth expansion or any feedback from the receiver to the transmitter and its computation complexity is similar to MRRC.

TL;DR: The discrete Kalman filter as mentioned in this paper is a set of mathematical equations that provides an efficient computational (recursive) means to estimate the state of a process, in a way that minimizes the mean of the squared error.
Abstract: In 1960, R.E. Kalman published his famous paper describing a recursive solution to the discrete-data linear filtering problem. Since that time, due in large part to advances in digital computing, the Kalman filter has been the subject of extensive research and application, particularly in the area of autonomous or assisted navigation. The Kalman filter is a set of mathematical equations that provides an efficient computational (recursive) means to estimate the state of a process, in a way that minimizes the mean of the squared error. The filter is very powerful in several aspects: it supports estimations of past, present, and even future states, and it can do so even when the precise nature of the modeled system is unknown. The purpose of this paper is to provide a practical introduction to the discrete Kalman filter. This introduction includes a description and some discussion of the basic discrete Kalman filter, a derivation, description and some discussion of the extended Kalman filter, and a relatively simple (tangible) example with real numbers & results.

TL;DR: This paper provides analyses of three types of diversity combining systems in practical use: selection diversity, maximal-ratio diversity, and equal-gain diversity systems, finding that the simplest possible combiner will generally yield performance essentially equivalent to the maximum obtainable from any quasilinear system.
Abstract: This paper provides analyses of three types of diversity combining systems in practical use. These are: selection diversity, maximal-ratio diversity, and equal-gain diversity systems. Quantitative measures of the relative performance (under realistic conditions) of the three systems are provided. The effects of various departures from ideal conditions, such as non-Rayleigh fading and partially coherent signal or noise voltages, are considered. Some discussion is also included of the relative merits of predetection and postdetection combining and of the problems in determining and using long-term distributions. The principal results are given in graphs and tables, useful in system design. It is seen that the simplest possible combiner, the equal-gain system, will generally yield performance essentially equivalent to the maximum obtainable from any quasilinear system. The principal application of the results is to diversity communication systems and the discussion is set in that context, but many of the results are also applicable to certain radar and navigation systems.
