Abstract
Defected Ground Structures are useful in many microwave applications. It suffers with radiation and scattering losses through defect in the ground plane. This paper addresses the origin and model of such losses with various 3D EM simulations. This model will be useful in engineering the EMI and losses due to DGS and other defect based resonators.

An Overview on Defected Ground Structure

TL;DR: In this article, a tutorial overview of defected ground structure (DGS) is presented, where the basic conceptions and transmission characteristics of DGS are introduced and the equivalent circuit models of varieties of different DGS units are also presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

A novel defected ground structure for planar circuits

TL;DR: In this article, a new defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed for the microstrip line and used to design a compact low pass filter that is at least 26.3% more compact lengthwise than other reported compact structures.

Compact defected ground structure in microstrip technology

TL;DR: In this paper, a meander microstrip line with defected ground structure is proposed and its radiation loss and slow-wave effect is evaluated, and a good agreement between simulation and measurement verifies the designed circuit.
