Modeling of tourists, local population, natural and cultural resources toward ecotourism product (case study in Seagrass Trikora Conservation Area)

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between local population, natural and cultural resources on tourist quality an ecotourism product in Seagrass Trikora Conservation Area, Bintan Regency and Riau Island.,The research model portrayed in this case consists of three variables (tourists, local population and resources); these variables try to describe how ecotourism in Riau Island can be developed. This study is based on a survey conducted in June 2015 of 200 Indonesian citizens and residents. List contains 900 potential participants that were filtered from numerous public sources and from the researchers’ professional and social contacts. The interviewers were contacted to alert them to participate in the survey. A total of 200 completed responses were received within 10 weeks of survey, and 200 responses were successfully collected. These responses are analyzed and presented in this research.,This study found that higher quality of the local population, natural resources and cultural resources would have an impact on improving ecotourism quality. On the other hand, higher ecotourism quality would be able to improve the performance of ecotourism. The implications of this research contributed to the development of ecotourism in the Riau Island: improving the quality of the surrounding population, i.e. in the improvement of non-formal education of the population capable of supporting ecotourism; improvement of material and non-material quality of the ecotourism area; and maintenance of the natural resources of the ecotourism area.,This research tried to sort natural and cultural resources into two different things: natural resources were measured by specific activities, biodiversity protection, ecology maintenance and travel involvement in natural landscape and cultural resources were measured by ensuring cultural integrity, ensuring the social coherence of communities and maintaining cultural possibilities. Thus, the originality of this research lied in the use of two separate variables of natural resources and cultural resources in the performance of ecotourism. Separation of variables of ecotourism quality and performance of ecotourism became the second originality in this study. This study aimed to examine the effects of quality of local population (X1), natural resources (X2) and cultural resources (X3) on ecotourism quality (Y1), and its impact on Performance of Ecotourism (Y2), comprehensively.

Abstract: Visitors’ increasing interest in nature-based and cultural tourism, especially in the context of ecotourism destinations, has generated a heated debate in tourism literature. Some authors consider that ecotourism should be approached through a niche strategy rather than through mass marketing. Therefore, identifying the main characteristics of visitors to ecotourism destinations is very important in setting management and marketing strategies adapted to their specific needs. The present paper aims to identify the profile of visitors to Romanian ecotourism destinations, considering the ecotourism potential of this country and the scarcity of empirical studies on these types of destinations. To reach this aim, a survey was conducted in four Romanian ecotourism destinations. By computing the data collected from a sample of 1157 visitors, four visitor segments have been identified based on a single characteristic (visit purpose). Crosstabulation and Chi-square analysis were used in order to identify the profiles of these segments. The results reveal that most of respondents are nature travellers, followed by culture travellers. The findings may be used by ecotourism destination managers in order to target specific market segments and establish proper management and marketing strategies.

Abstract: The development of tourism infrastructure without control can cause changes in the environmental vegetation index and harm a tourism destination. This study aims to analyze changes in the vegetation index on Dodola Island from 2013-2021 to develop tourism infrastructure. The approach used is remote sensing, namely the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) using Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI). NDVI is an index of the greenery or photosynthetic activity of vegetation. Vegetation actively carrying out photosynthesis will absorb most of the red waves of sunlight and reflect higher near-infrared waves. In addition, SAVI is a soil vegetation index adjusted for soil pixels' effect using a vegetation density function. The results of this study indicate a perfect correlation between the NDVI average value and the SAVI average value of 0.996 so that it can be used as data to analyze changes in the vegetation index value on Dodola Island from 2013-2021. The average NDVI value of Dodola Island in 2017 showed a significant decrease to 0.16 from 0.35 in 2016. Likewise, the average SAVI value of Dodola Island in 2017 showed a reduction of 0.12 from 0 .27 in 2016. Although in 2021, the average NDVI value will increase to 0.32 and the average SAVI value to 0.27, stakeholders need to form institutions and establish policies as a preventive measure for the decline in the vegetation index worse than in 2017. Based on the Decree of the State Minister of the Environment No. 201 of 2004 concerning the characteristics of the damage to mangrove forests, the condition of the mangrove area of ​​Dodola Island in 2017 is categorized as damaged and sparse, so that mangrove rehabilitation is necessary. Based on the results of this study, a community-based mangrove ecotourism approach is recommended as an alternative method of sustainable tourism development on Dodola Island.

Abstract: The objective of this article is to understand the intervention of cooperativism in the empowerment of the members of the Ecotourism Cooperative El Paraiso, in the state of Queretaro, Mexico. Under a qualitative methodology and a narrative design, the life history of this group was constructed. The results show that empowerment is reflected in "power with", "power to" and "power from within", which are detonated through personal aspects, close relationships and collectivity. The efforts of the cooperatives translate into the overcoming of individuals to improve their source of income (offer of ecotourism services), without leaving aside the pillars of sustainability.

Abstract: The Zamrud Area is designated as a National Park through the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. 350/ Menlhk/Setjen/PLA.2/5/2016 Year 2016. Within this area there are two lakes namely Pulau Besar Lake and Bawah Lake and have a diversity of flora and fauna. In the area of the Zamrud National Park, there are fishing communities who have been fishing for generations since the 70s, “mandah” and living in the area, and are involved in guarding and protecting the area from the threat of illegal logging and protected bird catching. The research approach used is qualitative. Research informants were taken based on criteria, namely to obtain a complete picture of the actions of traditional fishermen in securing and protecting the Zamrud National Park. The results showed that the forms of security measures taken by traditional fishermen in preserving the Zamrud National Park were: 1) Conducting river patrols, 2) Disseminating regional regulations, 3) Reprimanding visitors who violated the law, 4) Reporting violations and special incidents to the Forest Police. and BKSDA Riau. In an effort to maintain and maintain the sustainability of fishing activities in the Pulau Besar and Bawah Lake areas, traditional fishermen do: 1) Limit the use of fishing gear, 2) Limit the number and types of catches (not catching fish that are prohibited), 3) Maintain Lakeside Vegetation, 4) Not clearing land and taking forest products in the form of wood, and 5) Cooperating with various parties such as the local government.

Abstract: PurposeThe purpose of this article discusses the design of underground eco-houses using a dome structure of light construction while taking into account the historical experience of the development of the local population. This article considered the traditions of folk architecture and modern sophistication in the creation of energy-efficient eco-houses in foreign countries in the context of architecture and construction of affordable residential homes for the local population.Design/methodology/approachThe research presented in this paper was motivated by the need for developing agro-tourism facilities in hard-to-reach areas of the Silk Road in Southern Kazakhstan causes the construction of eco-houses built using local construction materials. Since ancient times in Southern Kazakhstan and during seasonal migrations in yurts of light construction, people have lived in mud-brick houses deep in the ground. Along with architectural and artistic solutions in building construction, great importance was attached to saving material resources, labour costs and achieving heat stability of residential buildings.FindingsIn the architectural and planning solution of the eco¬-house, progressive directions of construction of agrotechnical structures using renewable energy sources are adopted. Particular importance was given to the choice of the construction site on an elevated area nearby historical monuments and a favourable season for the construction of eco-houses with considering the natural and climatic characteristics of rural areas of Southern Kazakhstan.Research limitations/implicationsThis paper discussed the issues of insulation, ventilation and improving the eco-house microclimate comfort using local building materials. Improving the architectural and artistic expressiveness of the eco-house in terms of the tradition of folk architecture was also explicitly discussed in this paper.Practical implicationsTables with the justification of expediency of construction of economical eco-houses in natural and climatic conditions of Kazakhstan and Central Asia are provided. The results help to improve the energy efficiency of eco-houses in Kazakhstan by using renewable energy sources.Social implicationsSocial benefits are associated with the use of local raw materials. Eco-houses built from traditional building materials can become accessible to a wide range of people and stimulate the development of small businesses. This may be associated with the construction of eco-houses to serve visiting tourists in remote picturesque oases, as well as the manufacture of dome structures, felt products and the preparation of reed panels and so on.Originality/valueThe thermotechnical characteristics of the region's ground energy are given, which can significantly save the cost of heating the eco-house. Solutions for optimal insolation, ventilation of the eco-house are provided, taking into account the natural and climatic conditions of Southern Kazakhstan.

Abstract: Structural equation modeling (SEM) has become a quasi-standard in marketing and management research when it comes to analyzing the cause-effect relations between latent constructs. For most researchers, SEM is equivalent to carrying out covariance-based SEM (CB-SEM). While marketing researchers have a basic understanding of CB-SEM, most of them are only barely familiar with the other useful approach to SEM-partial least squares SEM (PLS-SEM). The current paper reviews PLS-SEM and its algorithm, and provides an overview of when it can be most appropriately applied, indicating its potential and limitations for future research. The authors conclude that PLS-SEM path modeling, if appropriately applied, is indeed a "silver bullet" for estimating causal models in many theoretical models and empirical data situations.
