TLDR
In this paper, a coupled carbon cycle and fire regime model was developed to simulate carbon budget of a fire-prone boreal forest in eastern Siberia, where the carbon model consists of 10 pools and represents carbon dynamics including biomass burning, on the basis of an ecophysiological carbon cycle model.About:

TL;DR: What is known and what is needed to develop a holistic understanding of the role of fire in the Earth system are reviewed, particularly in view of the pervasive impact of fires and the likelihood that they will become increasingly difficult to control as climate changes.

TL;DR: Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) is unique among the sectors considered in this volume, since the mitigation potential is derived from both an enhancement of removals of greenhouse gases (GHG), as well as reduction of emissions through management of land and livestock as discussed by the authors.

TL;DR: In this article, a process-based fire parameterization for terrestrial ecosystem components of climate and Earth system models is proposed, which is straightforward and general enough to apply globally and for current and future climates.

Impact of bark beetle (Ips typographus L.) disturbance on timber production and carbon sequestration in different management strategies under climate change
TL;DR: The study highlights the importance of including the full range of ecosystem-specific disturbances by isolating the effect of one important agent on timber production and C sequestration under climate change.

Design and implementation of an integrated GIS-based cellular automata model to characterize forest fire behaviour
TL;DR: This study shows that the GIS-CA model can simulate realistic forest fire scenarios and can be adapted to other CA-based spatio-temporal modelling applications.

Mersenne twister: a 623-dimensionally equidistributed uniform pseudo-random number generator
TL;DR: A new algorithm called Mersenne Twister (MT) is proposed for generating uniform pseudorandom numbers, which provides a super astronomical period of 2 and 623-dimensional equidistribution up to 32-bit accuracy, while using a working area of only 624 words.

TL;DR: The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) have cooperated in a project to produce a retroactive record of more than 50 years of global analyses of atmospheric fields in support of the needs of the research and climate monitoring communities as mentioned in this paper.
