MPP Estimation of a DDM PV Module Using Explicit I-V Expression

TL;DR: This paper presents a novel approach to transform the implicit current-voltage expression of a double-diode model (DDM) of a photovoltaic (PV) module into an explicit expression using the Taylor Series expansion of the exponential term in the I-Vexpression of a DDM PV module.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel approach to transform the implicit current-voltage (I-V) expression of a double-diode model (DDM) of a photovoltaic (PV) module into an explicit expression. This is achieved by using the Taylor Series expansion of the exponential term in the I-V expression of a DDM PV module. The derived explicit expression is validated against the implicit expression for three different PV modules under different environmental conditions (DEC). The maximum power point (MPP) is estimated using the simple and computationally efficient Bisection method, using the derived explicit expression. The proposed method is then compared with other MPP estimation methods under DEC. The results obtained from the comparison indicate better accuracy of the proposed method. To further validate the results, the proposed method is compared with experimental data collected from KC200GT PV module.

Abstract: The many different techniques for maximum power point tracking of photovoltaic (PV) arrays are discussed. The techniques are taken from the literature dating back to the earliest methods. It is shown that at least 19 distinct methods have been introduced in the literature, with many variations on implementation. This paper should serve as a convenient reference for future work in PV power generation.

TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical solution for the rapid extraction of single and double-diode model parameters from experimental data is described. And the resulting parameters' values' values are shown to have less than 10 percent error for most solar cells.
Abstract: Analytical solutions for the rapid extraction of single- and double-diode model parameters from experimental data are described. The resulting parameters' values are shown to have less than 10 percent error for most solar cells. Error contours are also illustrated to define the range of validity of these methods.

Abstract: This paper presents a photovoltaic (PV) model estimation method from the PV module data. The model is based on a single-diode model of a PV cell. The cell model of a module is extended to estimate the parameters of arrays. The variation of the parameters with change in temperature and irradiance is also studied. Finally, estimation of the maximum power point from the estimated parameters under varying environmental conditions is presented.
