Multiprotocol communication control equipment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a multi-protocol communication controller that is substantially a combination of a communication controller 10, a primary general-purpose synchronous transmitter-receiver UART-A, an exclusive support logic, and logs of digital modems.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To support various communication protocols by combining many digital modems consisting of IR modem arrays connected in parallel with a synchronous/asynchronous communication controller, a UART and an exclusive support logic. SOLUTION: The multi-protocol communication controller is substantially a combination of a communication controller 10, a primary general-purpose synchronous transmitter-receiver UART-A, a secondary general-purpose synchronous transmitter-receiver UART-B, an exclusive support logic, and logs of digital modems. The standard UART-A is completely compatible with an IRDA standard specification. In the case of executing an application program that is programmed such that a host including a controller is in accordance with a correct infrared ray communication protocol, the UART-A is directly connected between a host bus and an asynchronous modem in the IR modem array, for example, between an IRDA modem and an ASK modem. However, the application program is described without specifying any proper communication protocol, the 2nd UART-B is addedly connected to the 1st UART-A.

TL;DR: In this article, an infrared communication apparatus and an IR communication method for enabling data communication with a receiving apparatus regardless of a protocol that can be supported by the receiving apparatus is presented.
Abstract: An infrared communication apparatus and an infrared communication method for enabling data communication with a receiving apparatus regardless of a protocol that can be supported by the receiving apparatus. There are included a transmitting part (100) that transmits, to a receiving apparatus (2), a first packet for inquiring whether a first protocol can be supported and a second packet for inquiring whether a second protocol can be supported at least once and thereafter transmits thereto a plurality of third packets for inquiring whether a third protocol can be supported; a receiving part (104) that receives, from the receiving apparatus (2) having received the first packet, second packet and plurality of third packets, a response packet indicative of a protocol that can be supported by the receiving apparatus (2); and a data transmitting part (106) that transmits, based on the protocol indicated by the response packet received by the receiving part (104), data to the receiving apparatus (2).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a solution to provide an infrared transmitter and/or receiver making a communication time shorter than conventional devices by using a communication-means changeover control unit and a reply-packet processor.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared transmitter and/or receiver making a communication time shorter than conventional devices. SOLUTION: An infrared communication device 2 has a first communication control unit 13 transmitting data according to an IrDA Standard, a second communication control unit 14 transmitting data without following to the IrDA Standard, and a communication-means changeover control unit 12 changing over a processing by the first communication control unit 13 and the processing by the second communication control unit 14. The second communication control unit 14 contains: a control-information output section 32 transmitting a control information controlling data to be transmitted in response to a data-transmission indication from a user; a reply-packet processor 34 receiving a communication-capacity information displaying a communication capacity in the infrared communication device 3 from the infrared communication device 3 corresponding to the transmission of the control information; and a transmission-packet output section 35 packet-transmitting data to be transmitted on the basis of the communication-capacity information.
