Non-volatile memory card with autarkic chronometer

15 Mar 2005-
TL;DR: In this article, a nonvolatile memory card is described, which comprises a chronometer powered by an autarkic, card-internal power supply with a long-term energy store.
Abstract: A non-volatile memory card is described, which comprises a chronometer powered by an autarkic, card-internal power supply with a long-term energy store. The chronometer is connected to a card internal controller, such that the chronometer can provide the current time to the controller independent of a host system.

TL;DR: A memory card compatible RFID card includes a smartcard controller that receives power from a host device as discussed by the authors. But this controller does not have an inductive coupling with an RFID reader.
Abstract: A memory card compatible RFID card includes a smartcard controller that receives power from a host device. The RFID card also includes a small inductive device capable of inductive coupling with an RFID reader. The small inductive device is small enough to fit in the form factor of a memory card. Commands may be sent to the RFID card to keep the RFID card powered.

TL;DR: In this article, a small inductive device capable of inductive coupling with an RFID reader is presented. But it is not shown how to use it to enhance the usable read and write distance of the RFID card.
Abstract: An RFID card includes a smartcard controller that receives power from a host device. The RFID card also includes a small inductive device capable of inductive coupling with an RFID reader. The small inductive device is small enough to fit in the form factor of a memory card or SIM card. Enhancement circuits enhance the usable read and write distance of the RFID card.

TL;DR: In this paper, the inductive element is positioned on an outside edge of a memory card compatible device with the field coupling surface area perpendicular to the card, where conductive loops are formed parallel to the layers.
Abstract: A contactless device includes a miniaturized antenna. The antenna includes an inductive coupling element that presents a field coupling surface area to couple to a magnetic field. The inductive element may be made of layers where conductive loops are formed parallel to the layers or perpendicular to the layers. When conductive loops are formed perpendicular to the layers, the effective field coupling surface area is increased. The inductive element is positioned on an outside edge of a memory card compatible device with the field coupling surface area perpendicular to the card.

TL;DR: A memory card compatible token as mentioned in this paper includes a memory card slot compatible interface, radio circuits to transmit signals and a controller to determine if the access commands are for contactless devices attached to the memory card or general memory.
Abstract: A memory card compatible token includes a memory card slot compatible interface, radio circuits to transmit signals and a controller to determine if the memory card access commands are for contactless devices attached to the memory card slot or general memory. User payment account information is stored in the contactless chip as part of the contactless devices. The radio circuits can be activated and deactivated by the user for signal transmission using the controller through a mobile computing device.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe an apparatus and method for creating multiple spatial patterns such as magnetic patterns on credit cards using information from which patterns may be created, a pattern creation device for creating the spatial patterns, and control whereby the information which is stored is selectively utilized to cause the pattern creation.
Abstract: The apparatus and method described herein provides for creating multiple spatial patterns, such as magnetic patterns on credit cards. The invention includes storage of information from which patterns may be created, a pattern creation device for creating the spatial patterns, and control whereby the information which is stored is selectively utilized to cause the pattern creation. This allows multiple desired patterns to be simulated, allowing convenient replacement of a number of separate pattern carrying devices.

TL;DR: In this paper, a self-verification transaction card has a self contained keyboard or keypad for entering a personal identification code, a simplified verification display comprised of light emitting diodes (LED's) which light up in a pre-determined configuration for validation of a verification check, a non-volatile memory with a stored code, and a power supply.
Abstract: A self verifying transaction card having a self contained keyboard or keypad for entering a personal identification code, a simplified verification display comprised of light emitting diodes (LED's) which light up in a pre-determined configuration for validation of a verification check, a non-volatile memory with a stored code, and a self contained power supply. The card further contains circuitry for comparison of an entry with the stored code, with a pre-determined successive number of improper entries serving to disable the card from further identification functions and transactions. Clock/calendar timer and a contained microprocessor or microcontroller cause the verification function to be disabled at the expiration date of the card. The clock/calendar timer also provides a basis for uniquely correlating the time and date of a transaction to a changing verification display. A proper verification configuration at the time of transaction is not determinable and fraudulent transactions by merchants are prevented. In one embodiment the LED display is modulated to blink rapidly to conserve energy and to optically transmit data from the card to a remote terminal.

TL;DR: In this article, a collision resolution system and method for enhanced non-contact automated data collection is proposed. But it does not address the problem of collision resolution in collision-free data collection.
Abstract: A collision resolution system and method for enhanced non-contact automated data collection. The data collection system generally includes a plurality of portable fare tags or token ("smart") cards and a stationary target terminal. Each tag exchanges a series of messages with the target terminal to establish a communication link for the transfer of financial or other data. Concurrently, each tag and the target terminal process the messages to provide collision resolution, thereby ensuring that only one tag, at any instance, establishes the communication link with the target.
