TLDR
In this article, the effect of Kerr nonlinearity on the angle of beam divergence of single-mode trapezoidal index fibers from its linear and nonlinear values was investigated, and the nonlinear effect for each aspect ratio was observed to be more profound in lower values of normalized frequency.

Empirical relations for far-field characterization of photonic crystal fibers

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present simple empirical relations for angle of beam divergence of a solid-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) only depending on the opto-geometrical parameters like wavelength of the light used and the two structural parameters, the air hole diameter and the hole pitch.

Choice of Step and Near Step Profiles from Splice Loss Analysis of Trapezoidal Index Single Mode Fibers Leading to a Proposal of a Longitudinal Displacement Sensor

TL;DR: In this paper , the effect of aspect ratio on splice loss between a pair of identical single mode trapezoidal index fibers in the presence of longitudinal and transverse misalignments is investigated.

Nonlinear Fiber Optics

TL;DR: The field of nonlinear fiber optics has advanced enough that a whole book was devoted to it as discussed by the authors, which has been translated into Chinese, Japanese, and Russian languages, attesting to the worldwide activity in the field.

Gaussian approximation of the fundamental modes of graded-index fibers

TL;DR: In this article, a direct numerical integration of the wave equation is used to establish the validity of approximating the fundamental mode of graded-index fibers by a Gaussian function, and the fundamental modes of fibers, whose index profile can be expressed as a power law, are indeed very nearly Gaussian in shape.

Performance limits in optical communications due to fiber nonlinearity

TL;DR: How predictions were made from the outset of research in laser based optical communications and how they have evolved to their present form, accurately predicting the performance of coherently detected communication systems are described.
