TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a framework for the applications development required for the rapidly growing field of nonlinear optical devices from ordered polymeric materials, such as rigid rod (also known as ordered polymers).
Abstract: Nonlinear optics (NLO) is increasingly important for a variety of military and commercial needs ranging from new types of laser weapons to fiber optic communications networks, to optical computing applications. Rapid advances in optical phase conjugation, optical switching, and logic have demonstrated the enormous potential for practical applications with concurrent fast-paced materials development. A new class of organic materials called rigid rod (also known as ordered polymers) have the excellent intrinsic properties and tailorability to meet the requirements of a wide range of nonlinear optical devices. This manuscript provides a multidisciplinary effort to target key applications and material and processing requirements for ordered polymers. This manuscript provides the framework for the applications development required for the rapidly growing field of NLO devices from ordered polymeric materials.

TL;DR: The organic stilbazolium derivative crystal (DASB) was successfully grown by spontaneous nucleation method coupled slow evaporation (SNM-SE) for the first time as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The organic stilbazolium derivative crystal4-dimethylamino-N'-methyl-4'- stilbazolium p- bromobenzenesulfonate (DASB) was successfully grown by spontaneous nucleation method coupled slow evaporation (SNM-SE) for the first time. The corresponding powder XRD revealed the crystalline nature of the DASB material, and various functional groups were determined by FT-IR. The thermal stability and melting point were analyzed by TG/DTG and DSC measurement. Linear optical parameters such as the absorption coefficient, band gap energy, cut-off wavelength and extinction coefficient were obtained through UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectral study. Photoluminescence result indicates DASB crystal exists purple emission at 405 nm and 467 nm because of the π-π* and defect transitions, respectively. The SHG efficiency of DASB crystal is about 3 times higher than KDP crystal. All the encouraging results indicate the DASB crystal is a promising candidate for the Thz generation applications.

TL;DR: In this paper, a reduced form of CuO that reacts with the BaCO, to form BaCu20P was found to be lower by >150 "C than the expected BaC0, decomposition temperature under similar conditions.
Abstract: The solid-state route using Y203, BaCO,, and CuO to synthesize the YBa2Cu307 superconductor requires an effective and complete decomposition of the carbonate. We have found that by reducing starting particle size, improving the mixing, and vacuum processing most of the BaC03 decomposes in the 550-600 "C range. The enhanced decomposition is lower by >150 "C than the expected BaC0, decomposition temperature under similar conditions. The cause of this enhancement was found to be a reduced form of CuO that reacts with the BaCO, to form BaCu20P. Upon oxidation, the 1-2-3 phase forms only from the reacted BaCO,, even at temperatures below 650 "C. Virtually complete conversion to the 1-2-3 phase occurs by vacuum processing at -750 "C followed by oxidation at -800 "C.

TL;DR: Methacrylate polymers bearing pendant stilbene chromophore containing 4′-dialkylamino electron donor and 4-hexylsulfonyl electron acceptor have been synthesized as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Methacrylate polymers bearing pendant stilbene chromophore containing 4′-dialkylamino electron donor and 4-hexylsulfonyl electron acceptor has been synthesized. Owing to the introduced flexible alkyl chain to the NLO chromophore terminal group, soluble polymers was obtained up to 64 mol % of chromophore monomer portion in the copolymer. These amorphous polymers exhibited good filmforming abilities, thermal stability, and excellent optical clarity. The electrooptic coefficient (r33) as high as 6.4 pm/V were measured at 1.3 μm by reflection method. These polymers were easily photobleached by irradiation of light at 350∼450 nm wavelength for lateral confinement in channel waveguide.

TL;DR: A series of chloronitroaniline compounds were investigated as bulk crystals and in thin film form as potential nonlinear optical materials for use in electro-optic devices as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A series of chloronitroaniline compounds were investigated as bulk crystals and in thin film form as potential nonlinear optical materials for use in electro-optic devices. Crystal structure determination and computational modelling were completed on 5- chloro-2-nitroaniline and electro-optic measurements were performed on crystals grown by physical vapor deposition. Second harmonic generation measurements were carried out on poled guest/host systems of 3-chloro-4-nitroaniline in poly(methylmethacrylate).
