TL;DR: A series of soluble trinuclear and tetranuclear copper(I) complexes containing μ3-ηl acetylides have been synthesized and shown to exhibit rich photoluminescent behavior at room temperature.
Abstract: A series of soluble trinuclear and tetranuclear copper(I) complexes containing μ3-ηl acetylides \([{\text{Cu}}_{\text{3}} (\mu {\text{ - dppm}})_3 (\mu _3 {\text{ - }}\eta ^{\text{1}} {\text{ - C}} \equiv {\text{CR}})]^{2 + } ,[{\text{Cu}}_{\text{3}} (\mu {\text{ - dppm}})_3 (\mu _3 {\text{ - }}\eta ^{\text{1}} {\text{ - C}} \equiv {\text{CR}})_2 ]^ + \), and \([{\text{Cu}}_{\text{4}} ({\text{PPh}}_{\text{3}} )_4 (\mu _3 {\text{ - }}\eta ^{\text{1}} {\text{ - C}} \equiv {\text{CR}})_4 ]\) have been synthesized and shown to exhibit rich photoluminescent behavior at room temperature. The electrochemistry of the trinuclear Cu(I) acetylide complexes and the excited-state redox properties of \([{\text{Cu}}_{\text{3}} (\mu {\text{ - dppm}})_3 (\mu _3 {\text{ - }}\eta ^{\text{1}} {\text{ - C}} \equiv {\text{CC}}_{\text{6}} {\text{H}}_{\text{4}} {\text{OMe - }}p)_2 ]^ + \) have been investigated. The X-ray crystal structures of \([{\text{Cu}}_{\text{3}} (\mu {\text{ - dppm}})_3 (\mu _3 {\text{ - }}\eta ^{\text{1}} {\text{ - C}} \equiv {\text{CC}}_{\text{6}} {\text{H}}_{\text{4}} {\text{OMe - }}p)_2 ]^ + \) and \([{\text{Cu}}_{\text{4}} ({\text{PPh}}_{\text{3}} )_4 (\mu _3 {\text{ - }}\eta ^{\text{1}} {\text{ - C}} \equiv {\text{CC}}_{\text{6}} {\text{H}}_{\text{4}} {\text{OMe - p}})_4 ]\) have been determined.

TL;DR: This Minireview considers the key factors that govern the organization of macroscopic polarization in nonlinear optical systems obtained by electric poling of organic dipolar chromophores dissolved in polymer matrices.
Abstract: This Minireview considers the key factors that govern the organization of macroscopic polarization in nonlinear optical systems obtained by electric poling of organic dipolar chromophores dissolved in polymer matrices. The macroscopic electric polarization depends on the thermodynamic state of the dipole system. The dependence of the paraelectric and antiferroelectric states of dipolar chromophores on the chromophore concentration and the strength of the poling field is discussed. Phase transitions between the para- and antiferroelectric states are investigated within the limits of the Ising and isotropic models for the chromophore dipoles and are considered for varying chromophore concentration, poling field strength, and macroscopic shape of the sample used for poling. The macroscopic polarization and electro-optic coefficient of the material change drastically upon phase transition. The theories are compared with the experimental data on the electro-optic coefficient dependence on the chromophore concentration. The isotropic dipole model shows excellent agreement with experiment for the chromophore systems most commonly used in nonlinear optics.
