Abstract
In this study, we investigate the extent to which experience affects individual preferences for specific electric vehicle characteristics, individual attitudes toward the environment, and the impact of the attitudes on the choice between an electric and a conventional vehicle. We use a two-wave stated preference experiment where data was collected before and after the respondents experienced an electric vehicle for three months. We estimate a hybrid choice model using jointly the stated choices before and after the test period. The results show that individual preferences change significantly after a real experience with an electric vehicle in the household. In particular, there are major changes in the preference for driving range, top speed, fuel cost, battery life and charging in city centres and train stations. In line with other studies, we find that environmental concern has a positive effect on the preference for EVs both before and after the test period, but the attitude itself and its effect on the choice of vehicle does not change.

The effects of attitudes and personality traits on mode choice

TL;DR: The authors hypothesise that differences in people's attitudes and personality traits lead them to attribute varying importance to environmental considerations, safety, comfort, convenience and flexibility, and they hypothesize that these attributes lead to varying importance for environmental considerations.

A comparison of two alternative behavioral choice mechanisms for household auto ownership decisions

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare the advantages and disadvantages of the ordered-response and unordered-response auto ownership models empirically using several data sets and conclude that the appropriate choice mechanism is the unordered response structure.

Potential demand for alternative fuel vehicles

TL;DR: In this article, the potential demand for alternative fuel vehicles is analyzed using a stated preference survey in which each respondent, in a randomly selected sample, was exposed to 15 experiments, in each experiment the respondents were asked to rank three hypothetical vehicles characterized by specific attributes, according to the respondents' preferences.

Understanding the Demand for Travel: It's Not Purely 'Derived'

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that travel has an intrinsic positive utility and is valued for its own sake, not just as a means of reaching a destination, and argue that the same positive characteristics that lead people to engage in travel as a recreational activity in itself are likely to motivate them to engaging in apparently excess travel in the context of their mandatory and maintenance activities as well.
