Abstract
In order to deal with exponential demand of cellular data, operators inevitably have to deploy additional base stations. Such deployments surly improve network capacity and coverage but also adds up to operators' Operational and Capital Expenditure (OPEX and CPEX). Additionally, in order to handle indoor data demands, deployment of tiny, low-power, low-cost femtocell base stations prove an effective solution. Femtocell not only helps operators to offload users from expensive macrocell but also reduces network overall energy consumption. Since fem-tocell are user deployed base stations, their random placement significantly affects the performance of associated users. Also non-optimal placements of femtocell may result in high intra and cross tier interference. In this paper, we suggest an optimal placement strategy for femtocell base stations which result in QoS improvement of associated users. Energy efficiency aspect of femtocell placement is also analyzed. Obtained results are varied by extensive simulation.

Dual methods for nonconvex spectrum optimization of multicarrier systems

TL;DR: It is shown that under a certain condition called the time-sharing condition, the duality gap of the optimization problem is always zero, regardless of the convexity of the objective function, which leads to efficient numerical algorithms that solve the nonconvex problem in the dual domain.
