SARS-CoV-2 variants, spike mutations and immune escape.

TL;DR: A review of the literature on mutations of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, the primary antigen, focusing on their impacts on antigenicity and contextualizing them in the protein structure is presented in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection of a SARS-CoV-2 variant of concern in South Africa.

TL;DR: A newly arisen lineage of SARS-CoV-2 (designated 501Y.V2) was identified in South Africa after the first wave of the epidemic in a severely affected metropolitan area (Nelson Mandela Bay) that is located on the coast of the Eastern Cape province.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adaptive immunity to SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19.

TL;DR: In this article, a picture has begun to emerge that reveals that CD4+ T cells, CD8+ Tcells, and neutralizing antibodies all contribute to control SARS-CoV-2 in both non-hospitalized and hospitalized cases of COVID-19.

Genomics and epidemiology of the P.1 SARS-CoV-2 lineage in Manaus, Brazil.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a two-category dynamical model that integrates genomic and mortality data to estimate that P.1 may be 1.7-to 2.4-fold more transmissible and that previous (non-P.1) infection provides 54 to 79% of the protection against infection with P.

Temporal dynamics in viral shedding and transmissibility of COVID-19.

TL;DR: It is estimated that 44% (95% confidence interval, 25–69%) of secondary cases were infected during the index cases’ presymptomatic stage, in settings with substantial household clustering, active case finding and quarantine outside the home.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antibody cocktail to SARS-CoV-2 spike protein prevents rapid mutational escape seen with individual antibodies.

TL;DR: This work investigated the development of resistance against four antibodies to the spike protein that potently neutralize SARS-CoV-2, individually as well as when combined into cocktails.
Journal ArticleDOI

Persistent COVID-19 in an Immunocompromised Patient Temporarily Responsive to Two Courses of Remdesivir Therapy.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated suppressive but not curative effect of remdesivir in an immunocompromised patient treated with chemoimmunotherapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia experienced a 9-week course of COVID-19 with high fever and severe viral pneumonia.

Antiphospholipid antibodies as a cause of pulmonary capillaritis and diffuse alveolar hemorrhage : A case series and literature review

TL;DR: Evidence supports a causative relationship between PAPS, pulmonary capillaritis, and DAH in the absence of thromboembolic disease, and a possible nonthrombotic mechanism of antiphospholipid antibody-mediated pathology is needed to guide future therapies for this unusual manifestation of PAPS.
