In this paper, a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) is presented.
Abstract
Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. A compilation of high energy atmospheric muon data at sea level

TL;DR: In this article, the authors collected and combined all published data on the vertical atmospheric muon flux and the muon charge ratio for muon momenta above 10 GeV and found that the ratio of positive to negative muons is constant at a value of 1.268, with relative uncertainties increasing from approximately 1% at low momenta to about 6% at 300 GeV.

Stellar Companions and the Age of HD 141569 and its Circumstellar Disk

TL;DR: In this article, the stellar environment of the Beta Pictoris-like star HD 141569 with optical spectroscopy and near infrared imaging was investigated, and it was shown that the B9.5Ve primary, an M2 and an M4 type star both located in projection less than nine arseconds away have the same radial velocity and proper motion and almost certainly form a triple star system.

Qubits in phase space: Wigner-function approach to quantum-error correction and the mean-king problem

TL;DR: In this article, the authors further develop a method to represent the quantum state of a system of qubits in a phase-space grid of points, where the elements of the finite field (GF) are used to label the phase space axes.

Computing the Walls Associated to Bridgeland Stability Conditions on Projective Surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, the existence of walls for Bridgeland stability conditions for general projective surfaces has been studied and it has been shown that in suitable planes of stability conditions the walls are bounded and that the number of walls is globally finite.

Calculations of bluff-body stabilized flames using a joint probability density function model with detailed chemistry

TL;DR: In this paper, a joint probability density function (PDF) calculation of the bluff-body stabilized flames (HM1, HM2, and HM3) is reported, and the results are compared with the available experimental data.

A review of the features and analyses of the solid electrolyte interphase in Li-ion batteries

TL;DR: The solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is a protecting layer formed on the negative electrode of Li-ion batteries as a result of electrolyte decomposition, mainly during the first cycle as discussed by the authors.
