Abstract: Green synthesis by using biological agents has been a simple and effective approach for the synthesis of various forms of nanoparticles. The present investigation was intended to synthesis Ag-NPs and ZnO-NPs under photo-condition using the aqueous extracts of two mangrove plants namely Heritiera fomes and Sonneratia apetala and evaluate their potential biomedical applications. The formation of nanoparticles in aqueous solution of H. fomes and S. apetala under exposure to sun light was validated by change in color and formation of monodispersed NPs with a narrow particle size distribution. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) reveals the presence of Oxime and other heterocyclic compounds to be the most probable compounds responsible for the reduction and stability of nanoparticles in the solutions. The synthesized NPs displayed moderate free radical scavenging properties. The anti-inflammatory potential of ZnO-NPs was recorded to be comparatively higher than that of Ag-NP with 79% and 69.1% respectively. The Ag-NPs with unique properties of inhibiting α-amylase (91.14% and 89.16%) were found to be significantly high indicating its antidiabetic property. The synthesized NPs showed varied zone of inhibition (9-16mm) against the tested microbial pathogens. The synthesized nanoparticles possess strong biological activities in terms of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic and antibacterial, potentials which could be utilized in various biological applications by the cosmetic, food and biomedical industries.

TL;DR: In this review, biogenic synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs, procedures of syntheses, mechanism of formation and their various applications have been discussed.
Abstract: Nanotechnology is emerging as an important area of research with its tremendous applications in all fields of science, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, etc. It involves the materials and their applications having one dimension in the range of 1-100nm. Generally, various techniques are used for syntheses of nanoparticles (NPs) viz. laser ablation, chemical reduction, milling, sputtering, etc. These conventional techniques e.g. chemical reduction method, in which various hazardous chemicals are used for the synthesis of NPs later become liable for innumerable health risks due to their toxicity and endangering serious concerns for environment, while other approaches are expensive, need high energy for the synthesis of NPs. However, biogenic synthesis method to produce NPs is eco-friendly and free of chemical contaminants for biological applications where purity is of concerns. In biological method, different biological entities such as extract, enzymes or proteins of a natural product are used to reduce and stabilised formation of NPs. The nature of these biological entities also influence the structure, shape, size and morphology of synthesized NPs. In this review, biogenic synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs, procedures of syntheses, mechanism of formation and their various applications have been discussed. Various entities such as proteins, enzymes, phytochemicals, etc. available in the natural reductants are responsible for synthesis of ZnO NPs.

Abstract: Iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe2O3 NPs) were fabricated through green route using pomegranate (Punica granatum) seeds extract. The Fe2O3 NPs were characterized by UV–vis, XRD, EDX, SEM and AFM techniques. The adopted green rout furnished semi spherical Fe2O3 NPs, uniformly distributed and particle size in the range of 25–55 nm. The LCMS/MS was performed for the identification of biomolecule present in the extract of pomegranate seeds and p-hydroxy benzoic acid, gallic acid, methyl gallate, catechin, kaempferol-3-O-sophoroside, 3-deoxyflavonoids, magnolol, ferulic acid, vanillic acid and pinocembrin along with other minor constituents were detected in the extracts using for Fe2O3 NPs. The synthesized Fe2O3 NPs showed excellent photocatalytic activity against reactive blue under UV light irradiation and maximum degradation of 95.08% was achieved with 56 min of reaction time. In view of promising activity, the Fe2O3 NPs could be used photocatalyst for the degradation of dyes in wastewater and pomegranate seeds extract can be applied as eco-benign and cost effective approach for Fe2O3 NPs synthesis.

TL;DR: This article aims to review the synthesis routes and antimicrobial effects of Ag-NPs against various pathogens including bacteria, fungi and virus in environments containing infectious pathogens.
Abstract: In recent years the outbreak of re-emerging and emerging infectious diseases has been a significant burden on global economies and public health. The growth of population and urbanization along with poor water supply and environmental hygiene are the main reasons for the increase in outbreak of infectious pathogens. Transmission of infectious pathogens to the community has caused outbreaks of diseases such as influenza (A/H5N1), diarrhea (Escherichia coli), cholera (Vibrio cholera), etc throughout the world. The comprehensive treatments of environments containing infectious pathogens using advanced disinfectant nanomaterials have been proposed for prevention of the outbreaks. Among these nanomaterials, silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) with unique properties of high antimicrobial activity have attracted much interest from scientists and technologists to develop nanosilver-based disinfectant products. This article aims to review the synthesis routes and antimicrobial effects of Ag-NPs against various pathogens including bacteria, fungi and virus. Toxicology considerations of Ag-NPs to humans and ecology are discussed in detail. Some current applications of Ag-NPs in water-, air- and surface- disinfection are described. Finally, future prospects of Ag-NPs for treatment and prevention of currently emerging infections are discussed.

Abstract: Nanobiotechnology deals with the synthesis of nanostructures using living organisms. Among the use of living organisms for nanoparticle synthesis, plants have found application particularly in metal nanoparticle synthesis. Use of plants for synthesis of nanoparticles could be advantageous over other environmentally benign biological processes as this eliminates the elaborate process of maintaining cell cultures. Biosynthetic processes for nanoparticles would be more useful if nanoparticles were produced extracellularly using plants or their extracts and in a controlled manner according to their size, dispersity and shape. Plant use can also be suitably scaled up for large-scale synthesis of nanoparticles. In view of this, we have reviewed here the use of plants or their extracts in the synthesis of silver and gold nanoparticles for various human applications.
