TL;DR: Recent developments in the field of synthesis and potential applications of metal-functionalized polymers obtained via electropolymerization are presented, highlighting the significant advances in this field of research.
Abstract: Electropolymerization represents a suitable and well-established approach for the assembly of polymer structures, in particular with regard to the formation of thin, insoluble films. Utilization of monomers that are functionalized with metal complex units allows the combination of structural and functional benefits of polymers and metal moieties. Since a broad range of both electropolymerizable monomers and metal complexes are available, various structures and, thus, applications are possible. Recent developments in the field of synthesis and potential applications of metal-functionalized polymers obtained via electropolymerization are presented, highlighting the significant advances in this field of research.

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparative study of solid-state oxidative cross-linking of polynorbornylenes containing thiophene (N1T), bithiophene and terthiophene pendants (N3T) is reported.
Abstract: A comparative study of solid-state oxidative cross-linking (SOC) of polynorbornylenes containing thiophene (N1T), bithiophene (N2T), and terthiophene pendants (N3T) probing polymerization ability, kinetics, and the electrochemical and optical properties of the resulting conductive polythiophene interpenetrating networks (IPN)s is reported. Generally, conductive IPNs prepared from these systems were found to exhibit the capability to shuttle ions with predominant anion transport during the doping/dedoping process and were found to have doping levels ranging from 17 to 36%. N2T was found to produce conductive IPNs via SOC with a lower energy π to π* transition compared to those prepared from N3T.

TL;DR: This work endeavored to make conducting polymeric materials containing conformationally rigid metallocalixarene repeat units, and considered that the communication between the polymer and the calixarenes moiety could be mediated via a transition metal center.
Abstract: Calixarenes are highly versatile scaffolds for the design of 3-D cavities, 1 and have found wide utility in host -guest chemistry and molecular recognition. 2 The ability of calixarenes to selectively bind various cations at their lower rim has been widely utilized in the design of both small molecule 3 and polymeric sensory materials. 4 However, despite the numerous examples of calixarene inclusion complexes with organic molecules in the hydrophobic pocket, this binding mode has largely been unexplored with regard to sensors. 1,5,6As part of our continued interest in conjugated polymer-based sensors 7 we endeavored to make conducting polymeric materials containing conformationally rigid metallocalixarene repeat units. In pursuing this system we considered that the communication between the polymer and the calixarene moiety could be mediated via a transition metal center. Calixarenes1a-c were prepared by literature methods. 8,9
