In this paper, a soft chemical route is described for the preparation of platinum nanorods and self-assemblies over photochemically reduced polyoxometalate (silicotungstate) containing composite films.Abstract:
A soft chemical route is described for the preparation of platinum nanorods and self-assemblies over photochemically reduced polyoxometalate (silicotungstate) containing composite films. Transmission electron microscopy shows that the diameters of the platinum nanorods are around 55–60 nm. The formation of platinum nanorods on solid-liquid interface reactions was explained on the basis of single site growth mechanism and diffusion limitation aggregation process.read more

TL;DR: The atomic nature of the most important kinetic mechanisms of film growth is explored, which include adatom diffusion on terraces, along steps, and around island corners; nucleation and dynamics of the stable nucleus; atom attachment to and detachment from terraces and islands; and interlayer mass transport.

Large clusters and colloids. Metals in the embryonic state
TL;DR: In this paper, the size dependent quantization properties of transition metal clusters and colloids are investigated. But the size effects become more evident the smaller the particle is, whereas particles > 2 nm behave like quantum dots only at low temperatures, the 1.4 nm Au55 cluster follows quantum mechanical rules even at room temperature.

Nanocapillarity and Chemistry in Carbon Nanotubes
TL;DR: Nanotube cavities should be less chemically reactive than graphite and may serve as nanosize test tubes, and have been illustrated by monitoring the decomposition of silver nitrate within nanotubes in situ in an electron microscope, which produced chains of silver nanobeads separated by high-pressure gas pockets.
