TLDR
In this paper, the Arrow-Pratt theory of risk aversion is applied to the theory of optimal choice under risk, and a measure of the strength of the precautionary saving motive analogous to the ArrowPratt measure of risk avoidance is used to establish a number of new propositions about the necessity of saving and give a new interpretation of the Dreze-Modigliani substitution effect.
Abstract
The theory of precautionary saving is shown to be isomorphic to the Arrow-Pratt theory of risk aversion, making possible the application of a large body of knowledge about risk aversion to precautionary saving--and more generally, to the theory of optimal choice under risk. In particular, a measure of the strength of the precautionary saving motive analogous to the Arrow-Pratt measure of risk aversion is used to establish a number of new propositions about precautionary saving and to give a new interpretation of the Dreze-Modigliani substitution effect. Uninsured Idiosyncratic Risk and Aggregate Saving

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the standard growth model modified to include precautionary saving motives and liquidity constraints, and address the impact on the aggregate saving rate, the importance of asset trading to individuals, and the relative inequality of wealth and income distributions.

Conditional Skewness in Asset Pricing Tests

TL;DR: In this article, the authors formalize this intuition with an asset pricing model that incorporates conditional skewness and show that the low expected return momentum portfolios have higher skewnness than high expected return portfolios.

The analysis of household surveys

Angus Deaton
TL;DR: Deaton as discussed by the authors reviewed the analysis of household survey data, including the construction of household surveys, the econometric tools useful for such analysis, and a range of problems in development policy for which this survey analysis can be applied.

Asset Pricing with Heterogeneous Consumers

TL;DR: In this paper, a joint process of arbitrage-free asset prices, dividends, and aggregate income is shown to be supported in the equilibrium of an economy with judiciously modeled income heterogeneity.

The Equity Premium: It's Still a Puzzle

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss and assess various theoretical attempts to explain these two different empirical phenomena: the large "equity premium" and the low "risk free rate" and show that while there are several plausible explanations for the low level of Treasury returns, the large equity premium is still largely a mystery to economists.
