Development of Quantitative Thinking
John E. Opfer,Robert S. Siegler +1 more
TL;DR: The distinction between nonsymbolic and symbolic thinking is fundamental for understanding development of quantitative thinking, and the distinction between the two types of thinking can be found in the early development of children as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nonverbal estimation during numerosity judgements by adult humans
Michael J. Beran,Lauren A. Taglialatela,Timothy M. Flemming,Frances M. James,David A. Washburn +4 more
TL;DR: Reports of the number of items in a single set showed scalar variability as accuracy decreased, and variability in responses increased with increases in true set size, indicating a mechanism for the approximate representation of numerosity in adult humans that might be shared with nonhuman animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Behavioral effects of toluene are modulated by stimulus control.
TL;DR: The finding of differential sensitivity could be useful in guiding the development of more sensitive tests of performance impairment, as it is shown that behavior under stronger stimulus control showing less disruption by toluene can also be minimized by environmental stimuli.
Journal ArticleDOI
What defines a legitimate issue for Skinnerian psychology: Philosophy or technology?
TL;DR: In this paper, an alternative evolutionary model suggests that males and females follow different reproductive strategies, and predicts a more complex relationship between gender and age preferences, in particular, males' preferences for relatively younger females should be minimal during early mating years, but should become more pronounced as the male gets older.

TL;DR: I am indebted to Professor Lighthill for some further illuminating remarks regarding this point and his comments on Heisenberg's Theory of Isotropic Turbulence are highly illuminating.
